2013 SLT, RAM 1500 Coolant and Transmission Temp

Max temp 109 Degree Centigrade of coolant and transmission noted. is this normal ?
I asked mechanic for COOLANT FLUSH - he used UNIVERSAL COOLANT - is this ok ??
Water pump and thermostat were changed because engine light code was RUNNING COLD

Please help...

Universal Coolant is usually 100% ethylene glycol so in theory you should be ok, better to know the brand. You probably have air in system, you want to be 203f on stock thermo. You transmission should be 180f ish.

But no warning light - needle also staying in normal center.

109C=228F,you're hotter then hell for a 203 thermostat.Did your guy check the new thermostats operation,doubtful,and these days it's almost mandatory to check a new thermostats opening/closing temps before installing it.The odds of getting a dud thermostat are very high these days,being new doesn't mean squat anymore,and i'd bet you got a bad thermostat if it's running at 228F. I'd lean more towards a bad t-stat,then air in the system if a shop did it. Take the thermostat out,chuck it in a pot of water on the stove,and use a meat thermometer to keep track of the temp it opens and closes at.These days if you have a good working thermostat,your nuts to swap it out for a new thermostat

Number One Check Fluid level in Overflow tank, if that is full then follow any YouTube on bleeding, it helps to have the no spill funnel that attaches to the rad top.

You gotta watch trusting the expansion tank first. I have seen the system loose prime where the expansion tank will look full while the radiator was low.
I would start in the morning with a cold system and pull the radiator cap and make sure the coolant is to the top the filler neck. If that is full, then you have prime and you can trust the reading on the expansion dipstick.
If the radiator is not filled to the top with coolant, add coolant there first. The engine will heat the coolant into the expansion tank taking air with it and purging the air out. Cooling of the fluid should pull coolant back into the engine.
Rinse and repeat until there is no more headspace under the radiator cap in the morning.

FWIW, my 2020 Tradesman with the 3.6 typically runs both coolant and oil in the 215-228 F range in the summer, the transmission is around 190. This is with the factory coolant and thermostat.

FWIW, my 2020 Tradesman with the 3.6 typically runs both coolant and oil in the 215-228 F range in the summer, the transmission is around 190. This is with the factory coolant and thermostat.
I'm not really familiar with the little pentastar,but i seem to remember reading that it generally runs hotter then the 5.7 does. 228F with a new 203 thermostat is hot,it shouldn't be running that hot,as you don't have a hell'va lot of headroom,till you're warping heads

I would have a good look at at the rad to make sure the fins are all clean, you can get a lot of crap between the AC and rad if it’s always running hot. Use a good light and mirror works for me

I was thinkin the same thing at 109c so I kept reading,you beat me to it...seems a bit warm to me also...not familiar with that 3.6 engine,but seems to me(guess I'm old school way of thinking) any engine would be a tad warm at that temp for normal driving conditions.....I wouldn't like seeing that temp.id be going apes**t trying to figure it out.

Thanks everyone here - checked and cross checked from two mechanics. They said Thermostat is OK and fluid is ok - according to them 2013 SLT RAM 1500 3.6L Gas works with high temperatures- its ok.
Today, I tried to go offroad and my transmission goes 124 degree Celsius - I found it not normal and decided to quit and come back. There was no warning lights, beeps or anything from machine except temp telling me 124 degree C

124°C is 255°F.

No bueno, IMO. Even for a V6.

Bad trans temp sensor/thermostat? Only use OE if you end up replacing.

Do you have the 8 speed trans? Bad thermal unit?

Definately check trans fluid level.

There has to be a method to test the sensor, which I do not have.

Something definately not right.
