I have a 2014 Hemi with 144,000 miles. Had the #5 coil and plugs replaced with the same missing results. Mechanic said cam is probably shot. Plugs had a bunch of crunge on them. He also said that repairing the cam will probably create issues with the lower end and I should replace the engine. He would not do the job, too big for him. What should I do?
He's probably right.
Was it ticking?
If so, how long did you keep driving it after it started ticking? If you stopped driving it immediately, there probably won't be any metal in the VVT oil control solenoid, and if so, you can probably get away with a cam replacement.
If you kept driving while it was ticking, which is usually the case if it gets so bad as to start misfiring. Then, yea, you'll need a new engine.
You are in the best position to know how long you drive it after it started ticking. Almost certainly, if it got bad enough to misfire then it'll have metal all through the engine and need a new one.
Just call around to local shops. Tell them what you have and suspect, and ask in advance it they will do the engine replacment.
I'd recommend you go Mopar with the MDS delete and avoid Jasper, Powertrain Products, ATK, etc etc, but that is entirely up to you.

If it wasn't ticking at all, then maybe you should get a 2nd opinion from a different shop.
