Guys:

I am just about to take delivery of my truck, a 2014 Ram 1500 CC Limited with the 8.4AN system.

I am exploring options for upgrading the audio system, but I am getting conflicting info on the stock speaker sizes.

Are the rear doors 5.25's or 6x9's.

Also, I received a quote of $2,200 to install the following system, seems like a pretty good price, what do you all think?

All JL Audio components:

Amp XDv2 1000
Fronts C2690TX
Rears C2525
Sub 10TW3-D4 (two)
Custom sub box enclosure under rear seat that runs entire length

As far as I can tell, the best prices I can find on the above parts alone are close to $1,800, so $400 for the install including cabling, harnesses, adapters, etc. seems pretty good.

Thoughts?

Nice gear. And yes, it is 6x9s. I feel you may be able to get better sound for less though. Nothing wrong with JL at all i feel you pay for the name with it though.

Few ??? to help us help you:

You keeping factory head unit?
Are you just running doors off the head unit power?
Are you keeping speakers in the dash?

Id really look into a component set for up front. Mid and tweeter, running off an amp and not the head unit. 1000 watts for bass and 20 watts for midrange and highs is a huge mis match.

$400 to build the box and hook up including harnesses and wires is not too bad if ur not too farmiliar with this kind of work. Although it can be completed in the garage in a weekend with a buddy and a case of beer:favorites13:

Yes, I would be keeping the stock 8.4AN head unit.

The amp is a 5 channel, at 4 ohms it will send 400 amps RMS to the sub and 300 amps RMS to the 4 door speakers (75 amps RMS/speaker).

I'm really not sure what to do with the other speakers, I think there are 9 total in the truck with this system?

Not going to be an easy swap with the alpine system. You will need a summoning device to make everything sound right so figure least 100 more bucks if they didn't plan on it.

They did not plan on a summoning device.

Can you clarify why this is needed with the Alpine system and what it is?

I keep hearing it is difficult to upgrade the Alpine system but I cannot find any explanation as to what is unique about this system and where the difficulty stems from.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The stock amplifier has different covers at ever speaker so you don't get full range from just tapping one speaker. You have to use something that can take signal from at least six speakers so you get left and right adjustments. A DSP would be the best for this but there are products that audiocontol makes and PAC makes to do these summoning for a lot cheaper.

ahh, my mistake. first amp that popped up wen i googled that model was a mono so i thought u were just powering the subs.

I havent had experience with the alpine system but id check with your installer and ask if they have messed with it before. Id assume they should be able to pull signal from the proper channels in order to run to your 5 channel and still utilize the rest of the speakers running off head unit power.

Man, I guess I haven't kept up with these systems.

I've installed a few systems before but I basically tore everything out and started over.

Can you guys clarify a couple things for me, because my shop has not dealt with this system before.

From what I understand, each speaker is receiving a relatively narrow frequency, not a full signal, correct?

Is that controlled by the head unit or the stock 4.1 channel amp?

Since I am replacing the stock amp, that shouldn't be a problem if it is controlled by the stock amp, correct?

If it's controlled by the stock head unit, which I am not replacing, then it's a bigger problem.

However, I don't see any products out there from the two companies mentioned above that can take a clipped frequency signal and convert it to a full signal.

I don't even see how that would be possible.

I believe it is done at the amp but there is something goofy about the head unit but can't remember. The lc7i by audiocontrol will summon just don't think its as many channels as you need.

Has anybody found a manual for the 8.4AN system that is of any value re: wiring, output specs, etc?
