So my truck just hit 40000 km and Its mainly highway but when I do venture into the city im finding at slow speeds when turning the slightest bit the front end growls as if someone is grinding gears.. I know solid axle trucks dislike low speed turning but I have never owned a truck that made this much noise.. Is it normal? anything I can look for? Or should I just replicate the issue and let the dealership deal with it under warranty ?

So a little bit of a update. Not what I wanted to hear but either way its "solved". Truck went to the dealer and I replicated it as did the tech in drive and in reverse at speeds just below 5km/h while tires are turned in either direction. As the tech put it, " Your running a truck with 31-33 inch tires on a steering steering system that is only braced from one side, so what im hearing is the stress through the steering system and the stress on the yokes. If it did it while your tires were straight than we would have an issue." His only solution was to add a steering brace with a bottom bearing mount that attaches to the pitman arm, I believe. It would only relieve the stress on the steering box but not the yokes and u joints in the front end. SO..... end of the day its just another noise I guess I will have to live with, good thing I have my new exhaust on order :flipthebird:

So, what happens with the stress on the steering system ? Is that going to cause further damage to any other components. Imagine everyone who is running 35" or 37" tires I don't think they're having issues otherwise they would mention it here or no one would be lifting their trucks. Installing a suspension lift means being more prone to equipment failure ? Do we need to reinforce with a better aftermarket damper ?

That's *********... stock size on 20"s is 33. I'd make them replace all the **** he said could be causing it.

Its 33.5" for the stock 20s actually but there should be no stress on the front ujoint or yoke at all unless you drive in 4wd on dry pavement regularly. On the 2014+ our front driveshafts do not spin in 2wd unlike all previous models. Have you ever owned a heavy duty truck before? For the most part they are all pretty noisy in general and the ones at work all make different weird noises that arent issues. Not saying you do not have an issue but i would take it somewhere else before you take that techs word for it.

I have owned Fords and Gm's but never a Dodge. I have just learned to deal with the noise. Took it to a reputable diesel shop and had them take it for a spin and they replicated it and said don't worry about it. Its the normal solid axle groan. I had just never heard it before on my ford. Thanks for the replies! Also lifting a work truck like this IMO is the worst thing you can do. Taking a very capable truck and making it top heavy and unable to haul most trailers without extensive hitch adjustment. Not to mention the wear and tear on most pivot points in the driveline.
