Hey guys,
My wife's truck, 2016 Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4 needs new tires.
We currently have a set of Firestone Destinations on it.
The tires only have 20,000 miles at the most on them.
They are rotated every 5,000 miles.
We work on a dirt road, but it's not extremely rough.

The back tires are completely self destructing.
The front still look ok.
All 4 tires have approximately 1/4" of tread left after only 20,000 miles........

What tires are you guys using, and what tires do you recommend?
We definitely need a decent tire for wet muddy dirt roads. The factory tires only lasted 10,000 miles......

You can't go wrong with the Michelin LTX A/T2 tires for getting high mileage out of them and will have a lot better traction than those factory tires. I don't think I've gotten less than 80K out of any of the Michelin LTX tires I've had, this has been on various heavily loaded work vehicles being driven in the city.

I just got the Discount tire exclusive Goodyear Ultraterrain AT. The factory Firestone transforce and they sucked! At 21k they were at the wear strips. Sometimes I had to go into 4wheel to get out of the dirt driveway anytime it rained or snowed. The Ultras are fantastic, smooth ride, not noisy, E Load. Five tires, mounted, lifetime balanced, no fuss warranty, the whole thing was $1517 out the door.

Thanks guys!
We'll see if the local places have these choices.
My Step Dad used to work in a tire warehouse. He swore by Michelins. One time I got a set of generic AT's. He was so pissed that he didn't even look at me for weeks.....

I like my Cooper Discoverer ATP's. I got them at Tire Discounters for a good price. Not wearing nearly as fast as the TransForce & much better traction. I have never liked the traction I got when I ran Michelin LTX's. You can get a lot of miles out of them but the harder compound gave me really poor traction on wet pavement.

I love Michelins and have gotten great wear and performance out of them on several HD trucks. That being said, they are a pretty highway/road type tire. Your gravel usage may warrant a bit more off-road tire. I've gone away from the Michelins in favor of a 4-season Wild Country from Les Schwab and am super happy with them. I'm not sure who even makes them but it might be Toyo since they make a lot of Schwab tires. I like the 4-season with snowflake rating (not to be confused with any political leaning :)) so I just don't have to swap winter/summer tires out.

OP - just noticed you're in Maui - too funny, I'm writing this as I sit here in Kihei. Small world.... can't imagine you need tires for anything around here.... where can you go?? - everything is closed!! :) :) I at least had the ocean until two nights ago when we got absolutely hammered with rain. Now the ocean is brown and filled with jellyfish and other crap.

I hate you right now! :D I would love to be sitting ocean side for a few weeks until this thing is over. Going crazy here... we have laid several people off, several more keep calling in sick, so the rest of us are doing double & triple duty! I am the Plant Manager & I have been driving truck, sweeping floors, & sanitizing the building. So ready for a vacation. Looks like that will be on hold for some time too. :(

Michelin Defender LTX. Great long wearing tire that maintains it's wet weather grip very well as it wears. I have 50K miles on mine.

Ha! Definitely small world.....
We work on the side of Haleakala. Luckily, we are "Essential....."
The ranch that we work on has a lot of rocky/muddy terrain. It's the only place I get to use my Power Wagon! They don't let me go crazy though unfortunately......
If you're here when this is all over, hit me up! We have a huge lanai and a fridge full of BBQ ready beef!

The beaches are closed unfortunately......We live in a town called Makawao, it's around 1200 foot above sea level, it's nice and warm and we can plant a garden.
It does rain WAY too much in Makawao though!
If this were a real SHTF situation (might be sooner or later.....) I certainly would not want to be stranded here though. This is a state where honest, tax paying, law abiding citizens go to jail for a very long time just for defending themselves......I call it the "Victim State."
If someone were to break in and shoot my dog, I would still be held accountable for defending myself and my family. Pretty F'd up!

Thanks for the tire advice guys!
I just saw a brand new Discount Tire the other day, where Midas used to be.
My wife is headed there now to see what they have.

I've bought 3 sets of tires (for vehicles other than my truck) over the last year all at Discount Tire and they have by far the best prices. Costco used to be good but it seems like you can't touch anything for under $800 out the door.
