I recently purchased and installed the Banks Monster-Ram a few weeks ago on my 2017 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins (Automatic). Since the installation, I have been experiencing a persistent "Service Electronic Throttle Control" warning on the dash along with alternating Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) diagnostic trouble codes, and the truck is stuck in limp mode.

Symptoms & Scan Tool Data:

  • Initially, the truck threw a low-value FRP code. After swapping the sensor, the scan tool showed the Engine FRP Command stuck at 17.4k PSI while the FRP Actual bounced around 32k PSI—even when the FRP sensor was completely unplugged.
  • The truck is now throwing a persistent Fuel Rail Pressure High code.
  • I am also seeing 5V flooded onto two pins of the unplugged MAP sensor connector simultaneously, which shares the same 5V reference circuit as the FRP sensor and the Electronic Throttle Valve.
Electrical Diagnostics Completed:

  • The FRP sensor has a clean 5V on VREF and reads 0.4 ohms to ground on the signal ground wire. However, the signal wire reads 4.99V under all operating conditions (key on engine off, idling, snap throttle).
  • I disconnected the FRP sensor and the main engine ECM connectors and all of these isolated wires read (OL) between each other and have no continuity to ground, confirming the physical wiring harness integrity is good.
  • With the ECM plugged back in but the sensor remaining unplugged, the signal wire still reads 4.99V.
  • With the ECM completely powered down, I measure approximately 4,700 ohms from the signal wire to ground on both signal 1 and 2 circuits. Across signal 1 and 2, the resistance value doubles to roughly 9,400 ohms.
