Hello all.

Have a 2018 Ram 3500 Dually that I pull a 5er with. Has anybody had issues with the bed 7pin plug not working? I have been having to plug the harness to the bumper as there is no power to the bed plug.

I have looked several times and nothing seems to be cut or missing from the bumper to the bed plug.

Before I yank it and rewire has anybody run I to this issue and or am I missing something?

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

If the bumper plug works at least that narrows down where the problem can be. It has to be somewhere in the bumper to bed harness. Double check all the plugs/jacks for bad terminals.

Are you sure you're getting full insertion of the plug? Maybe get a test light and check the terminals to see if there is power for turn signals and all.
If you did that already and have no power, then like previously mentioned there must be a break somewhere from the bed plug to the back bumper plug since it gets it's power from the same harness.

This. If you have no power at the plug based on a test light, then it has to be in the wiring harness. If you DO have power based on a test light, then the plug isn't going in all the way.

I recently bought a flatbed trailer, and it's a devil getting the plug into and out of my bumper plug. I'm nervous that one of these days when I'm trying to get it out I'm going to rip the plug out of the bumper.

No issues like yours, and I have the same truck. I know there is a jumper harness that connects the bed plug, to the main harness coming to the bumper 7 pin. Maybe you just have a flaky connection at that junction, which is right behind the bumper. I always use the 7 pin in the bed when towing my fiver.

Any resolution to this issue? I have same truck, just curious.
Thanks in advance for sharing.

Well It has been a long time coming but finally got to look under the bumper to find the strangest thing. So I have been having to run the trailer break/wiring hook up from the 5th wheel over the tail gate and plug into the bumper. While that is not a big deal or inconvenience I just found it weird since there is a hook up right in the bed that was dead. I disconnected the bed wire harness and backed tracked testing the whole way and figured out that the wire loom was not even connected to anything. It was there zip tied and snapped back but not connected to a thing. After I un-snapped and removed the loom I noticed that the end of the wire loom coming from the bed hook-up had a male and female connector socket hooked together.

The solution is to pull the socket from bed wire loom apart
Remove the wire harness from the back of the bumper.
Insert the bed loom connections between the bumper and the live wires

My bed hook ups are now live and can roll with all 5th wheel hook ups safely in the back and out of the way now..

Sounds like someone at the factory missed that plug.
The factory bed 7-pin is just a parallel jumper harness.
Good something easy and you have it resolved.
