I have a 2011 long bed crew cab. Towing a 10K trailer at speed the mileage is awful. I Got the SLT with no upgrades. Nice 36 gallon tank. I guess this was the last generation made that did not use Blue Def..
With my large tank I tow until empty and the DTE gives up guessing my remaining range. Most I ever put in was 34, with 29-32 being more typical. I think my shortest tow is about 300 miles. Average is about 1,000 and I go from NY/Metro to Sebring a couple of times a year.
I'm tempted by some better creature comforts for those 1,000 mile tows and go to a shorter bed so I can drive into business meetings without my massive long bed. (Parking is hard in office parks)
The 2011 needs new tires, a full big milage service, the steering is getting loose and it needs some work, but I can get a good trade in from the dealer.
Amazingly, that exhaust brake is so useful that I have yet to change the brake pads. Just flushed the fluid a couple of times over the years.
And the 2018 looks great except for the now smaller 31/32 gallon tank. I think they shrank the tank to make room for the Blue Def, but the smaller tank is going to hurt unless the mileage is better with the Blue and a shorter rear end. (3.42 option instead of stock 3.72)
So - Did the mileage improve in later blue models over the last generation (technically still a Gen4) that did not use Blue Def for emissions??
Otherwise I'm going to have to get a Ford.
Yeah, Know I can put a titan tank in, but I'd like to drive it stock before messing with it and taking it back to the dealer whining.
Not worried about the 26/31 gauge calibration issue. I think thats fixed now.
