PowrRam do you have the Uconnect update that was released on March 23, 2018? I installed it when it came out but didn't have any issues.

I went through settings and didn't see anything odd. I tried with the cable connected and then tried without the cable via bluetooth. I might go out and do a full factory reset on the radio and unpair the phone and start from scratch. It REALLY would be handy to use the VR button to activate and use Google Assistant.

I hope so. I just got the truck 6 days ago. I can check to see which version I have tomorrow.

HOLY HELL!!!

If you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and factory reset, you stay at Windows 10
If you upgrade from Android Nougat to Oreo and factory reset, you stay on Oreo
If you factory reset Uconnect, it wipes out all updates and takes you back to what was installed when it was built SMH!

Oh... and your navigation has to be re-calibrated! Let me save you the 20 minutes call to Ram Customer Service! 5 counter clock wise circles... steering wheel at a full lock... must stay under 5mph... at the end of the 5th circle drive straight for 5-10 feet... remove key... open door for 30 seconds and restart truck.

DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM ON BLUETOOTH WHILE DOING THIS because bluetooth stays connected after you shut the truck off and you have to make 5 more circles in a factory parking lot down from your house until the security guard chases you down thinking your a crackhead and asks you to leave the property immediately before the police are called.

To summarize! Never ever reset your radio to factory settings. The Pixel 2 has more connectivity options than a Galaxy S8. Ram Customer Service and Uconnect have some very nice ladies working the night shift that will laugh right along with you at the hilarity of it all. I have to steal my sons flash drive to reinstall the Uconnect update and idle for 30-45 minutes again. I think the dog may have puked in the back seat with all the circles but I'll look in the morning when there's light out.

Done caring about texting and the VR button LMAO!

Wow, that sounds like an epic night! I'm not sure why but I'm beginning to think Uconnect is a garbage piece of software - at least when you consider what you can do with it, updates, support, etc. It's very locked down. The big barrier to just jailbreaking it and someone developing something more open is all the integration with the truck, I guess.

If you do a System Restore on Windows you rollback any updates to where you were on the date you set for your rollback.
If you upgrade from Nougat to Oreo, you are replacing the OS, not merely doing an update.
If you factory reset UConnect, of course it's going to go back to the version that came with the vehicle from the factory.

Yes, you have to calibrate the compass. This is normal on most vehicles that need the compass recalibrated. Really has nothing to do with UConnect software.

Wondering how you can reset UConnect while continuing to use the Bluetooth connection to your truck.

To summarize! Never ever reset your radio to factory settings.

Yes. Why did you do it?

The Pixel 2 has more connectivity options than a Galaxy S8.

Do you have a link stating this?

Done caring about texting and the VR button LMAO!

Okay.

My bad... I wrongly thought Uconnect updates you download and install are like operating system upgrades. Yes, Windows and Android do lose their updates but they don't roll back the operating system to the original build.

Great... Just an FYI that you might need to do that. Wasn't expected but it was laughable and funny that I was doing circles in a parking lot and security showed up. Maybe I should have inserted added emoji's and fun gifs to help emphasize the amusement. Side note, I have never had to calibrate my Surface Pro or phone or anything else that's had GPS for many years. I think maybe it was roughly 2001 - 2003 when I used Delorme for work and had to keep a big yellow puck on the dash for signal.

I wasn't resetting it. I had reset it, problems popped up and when I couldn't solve, I called. That part came after I did the circles in the parking lot. Maybe I didn't sequence it properly or explain adequately, again, my apologies for misleading. It was at the end of the GPS calibration and you shut off the motor and open the door. If I have time this weekend I'll shout out to a friend who owns a production company and maybe he can produce a short film on the events last night and we can take it to Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

Again, I'm just so simple minded and ignorantly thought a full reset might help. VR button wasn't doing anything with Android Auto and then it's been really slow to connect lately with my phone. I mean there's a 16GB flash drive with music on it. Navigation has dozens of old trip info since I've been driving it for work so much more. Then under the phone connection there's so many contacts, call logs, old messages... I thought maybe clearing the cash, or maybe it's kash, or maybe it's kayush or waite CACHE that's it. Maybe a reset would fix the text VR button issue and speed things up. mmmmhmmmm *in Slingblade voice*

ACTUALLY I don't really have time to be bothered and in trying to be amusing and laughing at a stupid situation I got myself into... I think this is stupid, but it's giving me something to do while I print invoices. I did have a Nexus 6P and it did in fact have better connectivity than other phones.

That ended with an LMAO meaning I was laughing at it and had done enough, I was over it. Again, an indicator of me laughing at the amusement of it all.

clay282...your signature shows you have a 2016. The reason the VR button doesn’t do anything with android auto is because your radio doesn’t have it. Android auto and Apple CarPlay comes on the 2018 radios.

I figured that out the hard way last night. That'll teach me to multitask and skim over posts instead of fully reading them. I read the entire thread again last night and realized I hadn't paid close enough attention. I tend to glance at the user profile to the left for details on the posters truck. Like you have a 2017 6.4 Hemi. PowrRam now appears to have a 2018 but his profile shows a 2015 3.6V6 like mine. Pure stupidity on my part but I thought it was laughable enough to share.

Doh. I forgot this detail also! I know that mine works but forgot that it was added very recently.

Sorry about that. I've had the 2018 for a week now and am waiting for step bars to come in and be installed before I take photos. I was planning on updating my profile at that time. Suppose I can do it now and add pics later.

I have a 2018 Laramie which i purchased 2 weeks ago. When i drove the truck home, Android Auto was able to work correctly when receiving texts. Once i got home and activated my U-Connect account, Sirius XM Guardian account, i quit receiving texts in Android Auto.

I agree that U-Connect is a joke. It only responds with canned texts.

Has any one els had an issue receiving texts with Android Auto? And if so, what was the fix?

The long conversation and going in circles with Ram Care, U-Connect and XM Guardian are getting tiring.

Probably already know the answer, but throwing the question out there just in case--do you have your phone connected to your truck via USB cable when using Android Auto?

I was under the impression you MUST have your phone connected via cable to use Android Auto.

My system works well. For texts, I many times just hit the microphone image on the screen to bring up Android and say "Send text to..." and it all works great. Long press VR works as well (being an 18).

Using Google driven software (Android Auto) is far superior in support and active upgrades to anything provided by vehicle manufacturers including navigation IMO.

No issues on my 2018.

Have you tried the following yet?
- delete phone pairing from truck side and phone side...
- re-pair/setup AndroidAuto via USB cable and "allow" all options that pop up on your phone & truck.

M² Mods.

I have not tried to delete the phone from the truck side or phone side. I will give that a shot today. Great suggestion Mpgrimm2.

I believe you are correct, but it irritates me to no end to see the option is there, isn't grayed out, and still doesn't work as expected.

M² Mods.
Hmm , reminds me of the RA2 Compass [emoji16]

The problem I have with Android Auto is whenever I do send a text and the person responds I don't always get a notification of their response. I have to keep an eye on my phone, which defeats the purpose of having Android Auto.

That happens to me even when I'm not hooked up to Android Auto, and it's always the same contact.
