can't wait for the cp4 recall to become available for my 2019 H.O. 3500 Dually. The regen cycles are so frequent I expect it to happen every time I drive it.

are there sensors on either side that may trigger this? Will take care of everything once the recall is done. Ideas?

There's a pressure differential pressure reading across the DPF that is used in determining how much of a soot load it has, that could be the culprit.

How do you know when it is doing a regen? I have never seen anything pop up on mine. 2021 2500 with approximately 15k miles.

Your CP4 has nothing to do with regens..... The recall will not fix that issue.
What kind of driving are you doing? Is it a bunch of short trips? If so you might not be completing your regen cycles so it is constantly trying to complete them.

See what crash said on how it works.

If you're running HVAC without recirculation, you can smell it. Really sucks since defrost won't run with recirculation. Horrible smell that has even given me a headache before. If you know what your EVIC should show as real time fuel economy based on what speed you're driving, you can see a huge drop in fuel mileage. I have a tuner and one of the items I monitor is exhaust gas temperature. That will also be an indicator since the EGT will increase to 1000-1200 degree range.

This sounds like you have an exhaust leak near the front of the truck. Exhaust exiting the tailpipe wouldn't be this strong after being sucked in from above the hood.

Would the truck use more DEF during that cycle?

No.

DEF is used in the SCR to reduce NOx emissions, 2 different systems.
Yes I was just wondering if regen would produce more NOx causing increased use of def. I still have not noticed a regen cycle in my truck and I’m at 18+k miles.

OH no, there have been more than a few regen cycles, U just not notice it. I ran a Blue Driver reader even on my ED truck, and I knew immediately when hit regen, as I monitored the temps, etc and as Bulldog 1891 said, you will see big increased temps when system regen cycle and burning off the "soot". I also monitored my ambient temps and such with live data. But since I used my ED more as a DD, I had to take an extra trip like 30 miles one way at Highway speeds once in a while to do a Good regen and keep system operating properly, since I also monitored the level of soot so I knew when it would initiate a cycle,. or should, and then would take my lil extra trip.

ABOVE may explain why I traded in my ED and went to a Hemi, as my needs changed and was not running that lil Diesel how it needed to be run to maintain properly

I know the CP4 has nothing to do with regens. I want the CP3 recall done before I fix it for good. I took a 400 mile trip towing 16k toy hauler. My dash shows when it starts and when its complete. It did it a lot. Uses a lot of fuel. Will trip the CEL due to high frequency of regen cycles. maybe bad sensors on DEF. Never goes into limp mode, see dealer, etc. just regens a lot, using a lot of fuel.

truck is a 2019 with 110k miles. Super clean, came from Texas.

OP has a '19. I thought Ram corrected the odor issue on the '19 new design. I had a '17 and know exactly what you are talking about.
My'20 though, no problem. can't smell anything.

As to the regens, again the '19 should have a screen that you have to scroll to and it will tell you when the regen is happening. It won't come up automatically when it starts, you have to go look for it, but you can watch the progress of the regen when you bring it up.

I have a 2021 2500. I was going through regens every 3 driving hours! No one helped me - went to 3 dealerships!! Finally found the DPF pressure sensor was shot. Replaced it and the problem got better - not fixed.

Problem 2, sounds ridiculous but it is a real deal. Dealership had no Mopar air filters. I asked what should I do - they said try WIX. I used WIX, excellent filtration, but gave more regens and mass air flow sensor did not like it, as well as Turbo boost under pressure warning. Went to a Mopar air filter - CEL lights are off. Regens are normal now, and truck passively regens when driving long enough on the highway.

FYI if you can't get Mopar use a Cummins Fleetguard air filter, I'm surprised to hear about the Wix filter not doing well, I've use a few of them on my 06 CTD an without any problems....
