Has anyone else experienced an issue where their Ram comes out of gear when coming to a complete stop or slowing down for a rolling turn? For 2 years now, I have experienced this issue where my truck comes out of drive, the "D" light in the gear knob cluster blinks and the center display behind the steering wheel tells me to shift into Park and then back into gear. The first time this happened, I almost got T-Boned and was smart enough to quickly shift into neutral and then into drive. The condition throws no codes so the two dealerships I brought my truck to have nothing to search for and like always, they are never able to reproduce the issue. So far, they have changed the transmission twice, the gear cluster once and allegedly performed numerous SW updates. Ram customer care has done nothing but start a case and then close the case if the service department cannot recreate the issue. Luckily, I have taken random videos of when this occurs over the last 2 years as backup. I have shared these videos with the 2 different service departments that had my truck for extended periods of time to see if they can get this raised up the food chain. You would think a safety risk like this would get a regional service manager or even a vehicle specialists involved. My next step is contacting the NTSB unless Stellantis, Mopar, FCA, RAM...whatever you want to call them gets their act together. In my last visit to the local Ram dealer service department, I left my truck with them for almost 4 weeks. They said they drove it randomly and could not recreate the issue. The following morning after picking it back up and every day since, my truck has come out of gear when coming to a full stop. This is my 3rd Ram and will probably be my last. It's a shame......

Welcome to the forum.

Post your question in the 5th generation section and you will get some answers. Good luck.

I had the same issue, and cleaning the throttle body has fixed the issue so far.
It’s happening because the butterfly in the throttle body is dirty and it is sticking on the closed position. So let’s say you are driving at 25mph, you are coming to a stop sign and let go the pedal, the butterfly holds on the close position. While the tranny is doing the downshifts, the throttle still is on the closed until the tranny gets in 1st gear, then the butterfly is supposed to gradually get in to idle position, but since the butterfly it is sticking to the sides, it releases rapidly giving the impression of a hard down shift. But if you pay close attention, it actually launches the truck forward, even your a/c blower revs up, and it happens after the truck has been stopped for hours.
I figured this out because it did it so often that I already knew when it was about to happen, so I was testing by putting the truck in neutral before the “hard shift” happen and I heard that the engine was holding low rpms and then was doing a hard rev.
With the truck off, ignition off, and cold. I removed the clamp holding the air intake at the throttle body, disconnected the sensor on the intake tube right above the clamp, disconnected the plug going to the throttle body, removed the 4 bolts holding the throttle body down, sprayed it with throttle body cleaner, wiped it clean, and reinstalled everything back. I didn’t have to do relearn

Does the engine stall out/and ebrake get applied also?

Had something similar on my 2022 related to engine fuel management/eTorque system. See here

2019 1500 Hemi 5.7 Happened to me yesterday, making a right turn, the motor revved to 2000 rpm and the truck was slowing, it freaked me out. Engine running, notice on dash to stop, put vehicle into park, and then drive. Fortunately I was on a side street and there was no traffic behind me. I just bought the truck from a dealer just a few weeks ago. I'd hate to have it happen on a busy street and not in the right lane.

Something new to think about , Never had anything like happen to me,
I would think 4th or 5 th generation would not make any difference on this?
2 new transmissions sound like a parts cannon when the dealer can't be bothered to do any digging.

PS I just see the orignal post was last year, so wonder what happened JC,
as is the norm, one post then buggers off?
