I have a 2019 Ram 1500 classic with about 2000 miles on it. The brakes seem different than any other vehicle I have driven. Seems like when you first brake there is an inch or two take up and the pad goes further down, the brake doesnt stop the vehicle as quickly unless I apply more pressure. It appears to be more of they way the brakes are than anything but I wanted to ask for an opinion? Brake fluid is full, no leaks, if its a feature of the brakes thats fine, wanting to know what its normal is.

Also have a hissing sound coming from around the brake pad that I didnt notice before.

Thank You!

David

I stopped by a different dealership and drove a truck identical to mine. The brakes are night and day different. I realized my brakes are nowhere close to where they were when I bought the truck two months ago. I havent towed anything or even filled the bed up. Its been city, highway or expressway driving. So I am really surprised that the brake goes past the gas pedal. Dropping it off tomorrow, we will see.

This is my first Ram since 2001 I believe and I got rid of that truck cause the dash looked like a bag of doritos it came apart so bad. Sadly, I am beginning to lose confidence in Dodge again. I know its one instance, but with their past issues I dunno. Debating on whether I should have given them another chance or not. This is my 3rd Ram 1500 so I obviously like them, but the QC needs to be stepped up. Looking back on it now, I maybe should have bought a Honda.

A good dealer should be able to diagnose and fix your issue. I agree that today's quality control is not so hot. For me personally, only needing to tow / haul once in a while, I briefly considered a Honda or other 'midsize' truck - but the overall utility of the 1500 CC with 5.7L Hemi is hard to beat. I'm at one year and about 11,500 miles, and the only thing needing warranty work has been a cruise control switch. Getting pretty nearly 20 mpg for my driving (lots of country road and freeway, not much city).

There are some issue that bug me a little - I will eventually fit an updated fuel filler pipe to make filling the gas tank a bit easier. I need to add a little rubber between dash and console for a rattle that only happens in the winter with cold starts. Oh yeah, the oil filter change messiness is right up there with my old Toyota (high, cramped, side of block) - but eventually I'll do a remote oil filter. The way the BW 44-44 transfer case is controlled isn't what I thought I was getting, but Brandon W has an 'override' harness and switch for that. The biggest thing, is that all manufacturers have some issues; they're just not the same ones.

Hope the dealer makes your brakes work like new. Don't spend too much time on second-guessing yourself =).

From your description it would appear that the pads on on or more wheels are being pushed back. This would cause you to have to pump up the brakes to re-set the pads. Check for loose calipers or loose wheel bearings. Good luck tracking it down.

Just because I see an opening to be a smart ass.. I guess Dave doesn’t love his hemi.. lol. I hope they take care of the brakes for you. I’ve got a power wagon and at 8500 lbs, it reminds me of breaking when I drove a semi.. I brake early and do a lot of coasting to slow down.

Oh I totally understand, you gotta say it. Had it been someone else I would have. It’s just disheartening when I take what a 15 year break from trucks because of quality issue, buy a new truck aaannnndddd we have quality issues. I understand everyone has them but it’s brakes man, it ain’t an automatic sunroof or electric side view mirrors, it’s brakes, thought we had these figured out in the middle of the last century. And people say, they will take care of it. I know they will, but that misses the point. You drop between $30-60,000 on a truck and a basic element of vehicles becomes an issue in two months? C’mon! I mean, C’mon!

The Power Wagons seem like they would be pretty cool, do they come in a 6 cyl only or can you get the 8? The only you tube stuff I see on them is in a 6.

I kinda laugh at the QC complaints, I’m not sure how old some of you are but the QC today is leaps and bounds better than the 70’s and 80’s.

There used to be broken down cars all over the highways, UAW workers leaving nuts, bolts and tools inside doors, sandwich bags in oil pans.
There is a reason that Honda and Toyota crushed it in the 80’s and 90’s and it was because our quality was crap.

Like you said, it is brakes.
Nothing stupendously difficult so why so much anguish?

Drama, Much?
IT IS BRAKES, THEY WORK.
Pedal is not instantaneous?
Hmm, Brakes, think maybe some grease on the caliper slide pins?

IT IS BRAKES!

Starting to Smell "Troll" around here.....

That’s sad you believe that’s the case, but believe what you like.

I don’t feel you’re trolling at all, brakes are pretty darn important.... Curious to know what they say happened if you can update us with the results on this.

Not sure where you found a 6 cylinder power wagon. They are only offered with the 6.4 hemi. Comes factory with a 12,000 lbs warm winch, 4.10 gears front and rear, front and rear electric lockers, disconnecting electric front sway bar, manual transfer case. The ‘18 is a 6 speed trans and the ‘19 is an 8 speed. Maybe that’s what you meant with 6 vs 8. Also the ‘19 has a redesigned front end, synthetic winch cable, optional 12” infotainment display, and if I remember correctly 120v plug in the bed where as the ‘18 only has it in the cab.

I got the ‘18 with every option except the upfitter module, dual alternator, and block heater. I love the truck and haven’t yet been able to off-road it but still love how it rides. I would have rather had the 8 speed trans and synthetic cable.

I get nothing but compliments about it. I also had a rough country 4.5” lift installed and still waiting on fuel off-road 20” wheels and 37” tires. Those should be here by oct.

It also came with the leather and luxury package and the upgraded alpine system, but I swapped that out for a custom build.

My 16 5.7 was feeling the same way after replacing the pads and rotors near 50k miles. I took it in and they replaced my master cylinder under my Maxcare warranty. I paid out of pocket to replace my brake fluid at the same time. My braking power returned back to normal. I know it's a long shot since your rig is new, but maybe you've got some debris in your brake line and or damage to a seal in your master cylinder. Things to consider
