Last week I purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited from my local dealer, traded in my 2018 Longhorn because I wanted the new body style. From the drive home I noticed a bunch of issues. Loud popping sound when turning or going over a bump, sounds like I just ran over a nail. The radio sometimes comes on but no sound, songs will play but nothing from the speakers. This truck has more trim rattles than a uhaul truck, seems like poor qc from the factory.

Being a new year I would expect some problems, but it has been over a week now of me trying to contact the service department leaving numerous messages, and I cannot even get a human on the phone. I tried the answering/appointment service and when I told them the issues and said I was requesting a loaner while my truck was in the shop they transferred me to a voicemail to leave yet another message without a return call.

What should my next step be?

I'd go to the dealer in person. Let the svc mgr know about the contact and response issues.

This is exactly one of the reasons why I decided to pass on a new 2019. I figure they need more time to get it right, that combined with the fact that all of the dealers in my area only had trucks with 3.21 gears, made my decision quite easy.

I'd have to go talk to them face to face. I hope i don't have any problems with my new Limited but if i do, i am dealing with a small town dealer that i have known personally for many years so i know they will treat me right.

So you bought a new truck without doing a decent test drive???? Sounds like a lot of the problems should have been discovered during a test drive.... I would have turned right back a round to the dealership. Guess you need to make a trip to the dealership. Hopefully this isn't another 1 post wonder troll....

How can you not get in touch with a service department? It’s a huge money maker for dealerships. Call any dealer, ask for service, 5 seconds later you have a rep on the line to make an appointment for you.

Am I confused here? Maybe spoiled that I am in an area that has many car dealers?

Actually I bought my last 3 new trucks without doing a test drive. I do not feel a need to, it is a new truck, everything is under warranty and if something is wrong it shouldn't be a problem getting it fixed. My previous 2018 longhorn wasn't in the dealership once, I walked into the same dealership back in January of this year at 5PM and drove off with the truck by 6pm.

I dont think it's much to ask to spend 65k on a truck and get a call back from service.

I call 3 times a day, press the option for service advisor and every single time it goes to answering machine that they are currently busy please leave a message, leave a message and never get a call back. This is a huge dealership with 15 brands at one location.

I would sure as hell show up in person. Call the sales line and ask to speak to the general manager. Call FCA and let them know about the after purchase support you are getting... The squeaky wheel always is the one that gets the attention. Sucks you have to do it but some dealers are just ****. I dont buy local cuz mine are such garbage... CEL came on with 1200 miles on my ram for fuel cap sensor local dealer told me 6 weeks until they could even look at it.. drove 3 hours to the place I got it was in and out with the issue fixed in a hour..

Press 0 to get a person or connect to sales, they always answer, explain your situation and have that person walk your call to service.

When I purchased my 2016 GLS550 ($110K) I was back at the dealership twice within first 5K miles with various trim squeaks. rattles, backup camera not working. Was annoying but **every** vehicle will have these problems. Especially new "made in usa" from-the-ground-up model, 1st year from the new factory, built in a different country than before (moved from Mexico to USA)...

Some of the 2019 RAM 1500 problems mentioned on this forum are quite embarrassing for FCA, but mostly already addressed (AC, popping sound suspension, U-connect, etc.) or trim and fitting issues that usually can be taken care of by the dealer in a day.

Now, if I begin hearing about engine/transmission/air-ride/e-tourque issues - I'd start worrying :)

Contact Ram Cares on this forum, they helped me out with a couple of issues the dealer had no desire or time to fix for me.

I would never buy any vehicle without driving it. I always order my new cars or trucks. Before I sign anything to bring it home, i drive them 10 - 15 miles to make sure everything is fine.
I would also never order a vehicle without driving something similar. If the driving position or seat comfort is bad, no chance I'm buying it.

The Daytona Dodge service department is the same way. Can never get in touch with anyone and if you leave a message no one calls you back.

Can you please elaborate on the “popping sound suspension”? I’ve recently noticed a popping sound in my ‘19. Thanks!

I don’t think I’d ever skip test driving a vehicle, be it new or used, cheap or pricey. That’s just crazy and far too trusting. You could have saved the aggravation you are now experiencing. Granted the dealer should be calling you back, but maybe he figures no big deal if he doesn’t hurry...........
