Hello Everyone,

I have a 2020 PW and a toddler. I'd like to be able to do Forest Service type trails and maybe something more moderate at slow speeds with my wife or I holding the lil one. I have fond memories of riding in the front seat or "driving" with dad on dirt roads as a kid.

Older gen trucks had a key switch for turning the passenger side air bag off, but I don't know about the new gen trucks. I would prefer and "all off" so I can do the same laptop driving I experienced as a kid, but a passenger side only cut off would be ok too. It seems the risk would be small of an airbag deployment at low speeds, but with the rate that they deploy its not worth it to me.

Any chance there is a way to accomplish this without drastic changes to the wiring? Could I just disconnect the weight sensor on the passenger seat?

Otherwise I think looking at an old Jeep with no electrical anything and a trailer might be the only way.

Thanks
Rob

I would think there is a fuse (or maybe a few?) for the air bags. Maybe just remove them?

I also have a 5th gen 4runner that I've looked at performing the same "airbag defeat" on. Suggestions are similar..to remove the fuses for that circuit, with the caveat that some "on /off" of the circuit may be required to get them back on due to some computer "features". 4runner has crawl control that handles 100% of the gas an brake in 4L at around 1-5 mph that could be fun too.

I can purposely leave my seat belt off, but there is no simple way to defeat the air bags. Seems like some "safety first" nonsense.
