2020 rm 1500 v8

Ran 89 octane in her and it dropped the MPG down to 14.1-14.5 AVG

THis is about a 1 MPG difference since running the 87

I am unsure if there is any performance difference. At first the 89 seemed to improve performance but towards the bottom of the tank i feel like it is running less smooth and the acceleration is lagging just a touch.

I put in 87 this morning and will see if the performance improves

so many variables. It would take several tanks of each over the exact same road conditions and temps to know for sure. I know I have run 87, 89 and 91 and never can tell any difference in mpg or seat of the pants. My buddy used to mix the fuel at the bulk plant and he said lots of times 87 will really be higher than 87 but can never be lower. So it is possible that actual octain rating is actually closer than you would think.

seems more cost effective to just buy the 87

You need a larger information pool.

So far on my 18 1500 I've filled it 5 times, it was full when I picked it up. 19.4, 17.5, 17.65, 17.54, 18.12. The first tank had me hopeful for incredible mileage, the rest have been in line with what I expected. Each time I've filled it, I use E15 (88 octane) fuel which is to be a mix of 10.5-15% ethanol, I ran it for a couple years in my previous 08 Hemi. Given the first tank being a better mileage (it was also a long trip) I plan to try running a few tanks of 87 or maybe 89 to see how it affects my average mileage.
