I have not done it, but I know some one that was pissed because he could not see the oil in his dark garage, so he drill a row of small holes in dipstick, the holes with oil in them will be in oil, empty hole is where the level is.
He said it works very well.
in the old days with steel rods, a real rough grind stone would make a ridge face and easy to see .
Mind you when the oils sits in old trucks for a year or 2, real easy to see level if any is on the dipinstick, same with diesels.
Had a Ford that oil was filled everytime gas was filled.

The dipstick in our 2013 Wrangler 3.6L looks like this and it is hard to read.

Are they still using this style in the 2021 Ram 3.6L ?

I would like to try the dipstick from our 2022 Cherokee 3.2L in it to see if it reads the same as it looks more like the dipstick in my Ram.

Insert clean, wait 10 sec., pull out, wipe dipstick sideways on clean cloth or paper towel, hold dipstick half inch away. . Look for the "wet" mark it leaves. Easy and accurate every time.

Tried that approach also without success. The issue is that the top lip of the crosshatch area on the dipstick collects oil from the dipstick tube on the way down when inserting it . Always looks overfull as a result.
The only way I could get consistent readings is to insert JUST until the o-ring touches the dipstick tube and remove, and then roughly measure the distance between the oil mark and the full mark. It should be the same distance as the o-ring to the fully inserted point. Hope that makes sense.

Can’t you file the ‘bump’ down?

I think the larger round part is to help guide and keep the dipstick centered in the tube when inserting and removing. Just a guess.

I do know the stick is really hard to read when the oil is clean, and still not as easy to read as it could be when the oil needs changed.

Cold engine. Wipe. Stick in, pull out. The oil level is right around where the cord meets the aluminum which makes sense since there's 6L in there and the truck is parked on a forward angle. I believe I'm around 5500kms on this OCI. PUP 5w30.

For the 2021 classic model year the owners manual is as follows:

An extra 400ml of oil harms nothing. 6L in and keep the old bottles. When you drain it at the next oil change you should get somewhere around 6L out. Put it in the old bottles to easily check. My engine burns f-all and I always get relatively the same amount out as went in. I might check the dipstick twice during an OCI which is 8000kms or 3-5months. If you're going to be **** (****** derivative slang) about oil, try it this way.
