I have a 2020 RAM with factory air suspension. I removed the air struts and installed 6” lifted coil overs, removed rear air spring and installed 6” lifted coils. Installed the OE insulators on top of the springs. I capped off all of the air lines just to prevent moisture from entering the system.

I am to the point where I need to take care of the electronic side of things & I need assistance - **get rid of the ‘Service Air Suspension’ messages etc.** Here is some information that will help others delete factory air suspension. I also need some help - so please chime in :)

After installing a 6” kit (kit designed for 19-24 RAM 1500 with 22” factory wheels w/o factory Air Suspension). YES - these kits will bolt right up! The ONLY thing needed in addition to a complete kit is the spring insulators for the rear springs. In addition to this you will also need to do the following:

- purchase AlphaOBD.
- connect AlohaOBD device (laptop, in my case) to vehicle’s computer network. I use a J2534 device (Autel MaxiFlash VCMI) via OBD/DLC port.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: you cannot just plug into the OBD port & expect AlphaOBD to work. FCA requires you to purchase a subscription in order to access their vehicles/get past the security gateway. You will need DIRECT access to the CAN C & CAN IHS networks in order to use AlphaOBD. This can be done by purchasing kits or plugs. It can also be done without purchasing plugs. You basically need access to CAN C & IHS on the other side of the security gateway. With this truck (and MANY Chrysler products of similar years) you can access the CAN C & IHS bus bars inside the dash in 5 min. You’ll need to remove pins 6 & 14 from the OBD port. Using the same style of pins you’ll have to run wires from the CAN C bus bar to pins 6 & 14. Do the same thing from the CAN IHS bar to pins 3 & 11. I used a breakout box that was plugged into the obd port (after removing pins 6&14) - much easier IMO.

PIN INFO:
3 - IHS+
11 - IHS-
6 - C+
14 - C-

Once you have AlphaOBD connected to the vehicle & with direct access to CAN C & IHS you will be able to use AlphaOBD to it potential.

Here’s where I am at. I can access tons of menus and sub menus. When I access the ASCM one of the options is “Disable ASCM”. When I select this option and choose ‘Start’ I get the “Failed” response in the box below the list of options. Is there a reason for this? Is this not the correct option? What module do I need to select in order to tell the computer this truck does not have factory Air Suspension that way it’ll stop throwing codes? I’ve seen videos and read forums on older RAM trucks but the menu options others’ have mentioned do not exist in my AlphaOBS lists. There’s gotta be a way to do this on gen 5 rams, right??

That sounds like an awful amount of effort to mess up your OBD interface and apparently doesn't accomplish the task.

Most of us with a 2018+ Ram just buy a KaodTech security bypass cable.

It takes a couple of minutes to install and can remain tucked up behind the dash while your OBD interface is not mutilated and is available for use at the Stealership.

And, welcome to Ram Forum.

Just buy a by-pass cable or module. There many different ones. I have 6 of them. I use ZAutomotive module the most.

Going to take guess. it's not working because your not actually by-passing the security. I'll admit I haven't disabled the air suspension on my rebel. So could be different issue.

Thank you. I’ll get the cable ordered, it’d definitely be easier . I am able to change/modify many parameters, turn items off (seatbelt lamp), etc. I’m just not finding the menus/submenus I believe I need. I suppose the ‘Failed’ response in Alfa when selecting ‘Disable ASCM’ is also an issue I can’t get past. I’ll start with the cable and see if it helps.

UPDATE

Holy Cow!! AlfaOBD is the best!!! I’ve used forscan for fords for some time (that was a mouth full!) and it does not come close to AlfaOBD! The amount of access you have with Alfa is amazing!

After finding the correct menus I was able to get the “Service Air Suspension Immediately” message to go away and stay away. > BCM > Car Configuration Change > (changed a handful of items from this point - the most notable being the option to disable the air suspension service message lamp).

Appreciate the help!

Did you copy your current configuration before making any changes?

That's a SOP that is strongly encouraged so that you have a baseline to fall back to.

Many of the AlfaOBD tweaks have been successfully completed without any issues but occasionally a simple change might have unexpected consequences.

I once changed a simple cargo lighting feature and killed the power steering.

I keep a detailed change file on my PC and make current configuration backups often.
