2020 Ram Concerns

New guy here and I apologize if there is a thread already that covers any of the issues that I am having. I just recently bought a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Hemi and it has 3,100 miles on it and is my first Ram ever. I am experiencing some issues that are very concerning to me as this is a brand new truck.

1. When I accelerate I hear what I would describe as a shuffle or clicking noise and then it eventually sounds like the noise bottoms out and then goes away and then will come back when I start to accelerate again.

2. When driving down the interstate or at higher speeds, randomly a high velocity burst of air will come out of the passenger side air vent closest to the door and will last for 5-10 seconds and then will go away.

3. Tonight for the first time I heard a flute noise or a tea kettle whistle type of noise when I started my truck after filling it up with gas. I heard the noise again after I pulled my truck into my garage and turned it off. It was a whistle type of noise that lasted 3-5 seconds.

if anyone could help me out with any of these concerns I’d be very grateful.

I have the same as #3 with mine...damned if I know what it is but seems to come from dash or under the hood. Purchased a 8/125,000 warranty and will drive it until something gives and then FCA can fix it.

Welcome to the forum. I can't help other than to say , I would bring it back to the dealer and use the warranty.

Right, I'm in agreement with huntergreen. Take it in and have them fix those problems. Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your 2020. Mine has been nearly flawless in the 7 months I've owned it. The only issues I've seen are cosmetic (rambox lids misaligned). I hope the issues you mentioned are easily fixed and you're enjoying your new truck again. And welcome to the forum!

I also have #2, figure it's a fresh air safety thing to help keep cabin air as fresh as possible while still running max A/C. I write it off as a "personality trait" as all new vehicles have in some form or fashion.

I have a 2020 Laramie bought in JAN and has about 4,000 miles on it. So far only one long road trip over a weekend, about 5 hours each way. The rest of it local DD stuff and some weekend 2-hr drives over country roads.

No issues.

RamBox door slightly not perfectly lined up.

Got the wiper torque recall taken care of.
Got the backup camera recall taken care of via over-the-air (OTA) update. (It wasn't even acting up , but okay, they updated it.)

Funny noises I've heard and been able to narrow down (I think):

There is definitely an electronical sound when I activate the parking brake ( I think, too, when I deactivate the parking brake). Sounds like a servo or something has replaced the old fashion cable to the rear drums. Or maybe a servo is pulling the cable taught. IDK, but it definitely makes an electrical/motor/gears type whine.

Also, there is a small noise when the fuel pump energizes, although I don't seems to hear it every time. But that noise goes back to cars as far as the '90s , so no foul there.

I don't know if I've heard the air dam going up or down.

There is a crappy sounding "clunk" or "kerchunk" when going slow (15-35 mph) and coming out of econ cylinder disable to full 8 cylinders. Like if I'm going through a neighborhood at like 20, then the truck shuts down the cylinders, then when I accelerate out of the speed zone the cylinders come back online and there's that thunk.
I hate that, sounds like mechanical parts coming together under a structural load. Doesn't sound comfortable one dam bit.

Parking brake - normal. Uses a motor to engage parking brake for you.

Clunk - normal for switch into and out of cylinder deactivation. I manually turn off the ECO mode. Use the manual shift buttons on the steering wheel. Push down once and then push up as many times as it takes to get to "8-" or maybe it's "-8" on the dash board. This tells you it will shift all the way up to 8th gear and the minus tells you ECO is deactivated.

It's not normal to feel a clunk from the MDS system. In fact, it's designed to not be noticed by the driver or passengers. I rarely noticed when MDS was active on my truck until I upgraded the muffler. Now I can tell by sound, but still can't feel when it happens. There's something wrong with it if it's as pronounced as he is claiming.

This is why there is a warranty - take it back for evaluation and repair.. Yes, a PITA but in the long run you will be glad you did.

I have both #2 and #3 with my ‘19 Longhorn and also a very bad lifter noise problem on startup. Dealer / Chrysler are so far not resolving my problems. Here’s some video:

honestly I’ve found enough people with these same two problems that there should really be a recall. There is clearly something wrong with the oiling system and / or something related to the lifters on these engines. The truck was also not adequately tested in a wind tunnel and / or has an assembly line defect that is common to a lot of trucks causing this unacceptable wind noise.

^^^^With the noise, are you driving it with the back sliding window open? If mine is open, along with my sunroof, I get a similar sound, though it's not nearly as loud as yours.

that would drive me INSANE....little noises, once I hear them, or bigger ones like yours would be all I notice from then on.

Maybe add some tape up window channel outside, drive it, and try to isolate it. Try to pin point where its coming from.

Kidding aside, does it do that all the time or just randomly? Is it something you can take in and show, without a doubt to the techs? I'm guessing a lot of this stuff is going to be the standard "Could not duplicate problem" write off so they don't have to mess with it. Like @mootspoints did, I would definitely suggest getting videos of the offenses prior to taking it in so you can double down.

Get it in and back to a dealer ASAP. Trust me, you don’t want what’s happening with my 2019 to happen to you. Ram Care or FCA (in Canada where I am) is ghosting all of my calls AND MY DEALERS CALLS and my next step is Amvic (Alberta motor vehicle industry council) and a news station to get Some sort of attention to resolve my ongoing problems with my truck. I hope to god you didn’t end up with a dud truck like mine. I paid for extended warranty and bought the truck brand new off the dealer. Mine all started with issues similar to yours- noises... blower motor went, AC went, crazy loud roaring in the cab and a year long leak. Good luck!
