Anything new for 2021 on a Laramie that would make it worth ordering one versus grabbing one off a lot with about $5k in rebates?

Off the lot is not going to save you much if anything. The dealers order trucks with the moonroof, black or chrome appearance packages, 12" display, crew cab, 23 gallon fuel tank, anti-spin instead of a locking rear differential, and the net result is a MSRP that is $5,000 to $10,000 higher for their trucks.

What they do not have is lower 3.55 or 3.92 gears, locking differential, 33-gal fuel tank, off-road package, 6'4" box, V-6 engine. Most don't have running boards (non retracting). Even the Rebels that are meant for off road use, seldom have the optional 33-gallon gas tank.

I can do a custom build and the truck will have a MSRP of less than $49K as compared to everything on the dealers' lots that will cost me more than $53K and not have anything close to what I really want.

With an extra $10,000 in padding the discounts off MSRP count for little or nothing. So for me the choice is ordering a 2020 in August or a 2021 in September. Not a difficult decision to make.

I think I'd wait to see exactly what is new for myself before making this decision. But for me, my decision on whether to order or buy off the lot depends on what I find on dealer lots. If I can find a truck that has everything I want and nothing I don't, then I'd consider buying it off the lot. If I have to make too many concessions I'd probably order one. Every option you don't want that's on a truck you find on a lot costs you anyway. Why pay $1800 for air suspension, $1500 for a sunroof, or thousands more for a higher equipment group if you really don't want them?

Amen. When I saw my current 2020 on the lot, the only thing it had that I hadn't originally wanted was the Black Appearance Group. But it really grew on me, and I thought "what the heck, lets give it a shot." Saved me the trouble of having to wait for the delivery of a 2021.

I buy base model trucks with functional upgrades. I like knowing I can hose mine out if needed. I save the fancy stuff for my wife’s vehicle.

I have spent many hours looking for trucks without expensive apprearance groups but with a 33-gal gas tank and the V-6 engine and not found a single one within 150 miles of my house. Getting the 3.92 gears is equally futile unless you don't mind the V-8 with eTorque. The most bang for the buck with Ram is their Off Road Group but dealers seldom order trucks with this option.

Dealers want to make as much profit as possible with each truck they sell and so ordering appearance groups or fancy wheels and the 12" Nav display and crew cabs and moon roofs does a lot to jack up the MSRP on them.

I have noticed that as well. Get what i want for cheaper than what dealer picks but how do you custom build and buy. Still have to go through dealer?

Was with my neighbor on 08/05/20, he wanted to order a 2020 and dealerships could not order 2020 any more just 21s and it seems they went up about $500.00 across the board.

You need to go through a dealership if you want to order one.

From what I read, most of the 2021's high optioned may have MFT, but enhanced Trailer Towing Options, Like the back up controls and camera's, that would be the one thing would interest me if I was in the market.

You found a dealer who wanted to clear out his inventory and willing to deal. I am finding very few, as in a half dozen 2020 Ram 1500's with 4WD on local dealer lots. I have decided to wait for the 2021 model information to be available and to actually place an order in December. At the end of the year the dealers want to make their numbers, both to save on all the units sold and to qualify for a higher quota for scarce vehicles.

For the 2020 models the Ram build configurations really jack up the MSRP by thousands of dollars if you want the LED or projector headlamps or heated seats or bucket seats. In days past one got steel wheels standard and it was more prudent to buy aftermarket wheels later. Now with the packages Ram is forcing the inclusion of a $1600 set of 20" chome plated wheels which are the last thing I want on a truck.

Hoping too for more color choices for the trucks. Ram provides the fewest color options and most are gray or black or white color variations. They are the worst in this respect of the 1/2 ton pickups. Even fewer choices with the Rebel pickups.
