Long story, but while trying to get my truck out of a ditch I hooked the chain in an area where it pulled the wires out of the electric module on the rack and pinion. I tried to access the box to see if I could reconnect, but I don't have the proper tamper resistant bit. Fearful that I may cause more issues, I just took it to the mechanic. He said he called the dealership and they don't even have the 5-point tamper resistant star bit to access the module, so I will need to replace the entire rack and pinion for $4000 after parts and labor. Is there anything I can do? Do you know what bit accesses the module? I'm an idiot for making that mistake, but I want to see if I can access the panel first before replacing the entire rack and pinion.

How about posting a picture of this security screw?

.

Here are the pictures. The first is a picture of the security screw. The electric module box is fully intact, but there is a little give on the plug where I believe the wiring has come loose inside the box. I believe if I can get access to the box I can repair whatever issue there is with the wiring inside.

Look it up with a Snap On tool dealer. They usually carry hard to find bits. Or ...Working at a Car Star bodyshop years ago we discovered that if you encounter that type of a pin in the head of the bolt ,all you have to do is drill a hole in the center of the proper bit .

Drilling a hole in the proper bit is a great idea! If I’m able to get it off with the right bit, thoughts on my ability to reconnect. I have no idea what it looks inside there. Anyone think this is doable?

That's just a plain ole security torx bit. All hardware stores carry them, Lowes, HD etc.
Got it. So someone was not telling the truth, either the dealership or the mechanic that called the dealership.

Anybody ever seen inside the module before to know if that’s possible?
