Have a 22’ 1500 - low mileage, garage kept, well maintained that I’ve recently noticed has some significant bubbling on the hood in a few spots.

I’m assuming this is sub surface rust? (Ok I did some googling also).

From what I understand this has a 5 year warranty which I am still under. Has anyone experienced similar and had luck getting this addressed?

Salt water humidity? Are other cars in the area also affected?

I’ve lived in Central Florida my whole life and never had this issue on any vehicle, nor do any other cars in my household.

Orlando is 50 miles from the nearest beach. While it’s certainly humid as all hell, it has nothing to do with salt.

Then it is likely just a bad paint application. Good Luck with a warrantee claim nearing expiration.

It might be corrosion, but it's not rust. The hoods are aluminum on these trucks. My ram, though much older than yours, has heavy blistering on the hood, and so have several other trucks I've had with aluminum hoods.

I think being noticeable at the age of four is disappointing though. Hope you can get it fixed under warranty.

Why “worry” if it is …or if it isn’t…. a warranty claim..?

MAKE THE CLAIM.

Simple.

5th gen Ram 1500 hoods are aluminum from what I’ve read. Aluminum doesn’t rust but it does corrode. The corrosion warranty is for rust thru (perforation) so I’m not sure they will do anything for you. Hopefully I’m wrong about that. The answer is always no if you don’t ask.

The AI needs to be updated. Florida does indeed sit between two warm, salty bodies of water. With the Atlantic Ocean being one. But the other is the Gulf of America. :anitoof:
