Hello all,
i have a 2024 RAM 2500 with the 6.4L Gas Hemi engine and i charged the truck the night before with no issues.

Hooked -up the trailer last night with the 7 pin trailer harness as done many times before.

Got up at 4am and got nothing from the remote.

No power accessories connected.

Pulled the key out to unlock the truck to open the hood and connect the odyssey battery charger and it showed 0 charge, currently on bar 2 of 6 and still charging.

I googled the issue and ai suggested dealer may have a computer update far a parasitic draw on the gas 6.4.

Anyone else have this issue?

Battery has always been kept charged and no issues traveling. Thanks

The battery cannot sleep.
It's a power source and will continue to supply power to anything drawing current.

Our trucks have many computer-like modules, which in turn have endless wiring and sensors that could fail, preventing those modules from going into sleep mode.

The first place to start is to load test the battery with a toaster-style battery load tester like the $20 device from Harbour Freight.

Then have the alternator tested at an auto parts store. They will do this for free.

The digital battery load testers used at auto parts stores are prone to false positives and not to be trusted.

After the battery and charging system have been verified, you will want to investigate a parasitic current draw most likely created by a module failing to remain in sleep mode.

Lock the truck, place the FOB in the house, and watch to see if the EVIC fails to shut down.

Watch it for about 20 minutes to see if it periodically wakes from a sleep state.

If you observe the EVIC staying on or waking intermittently, a module is likely failing to sleep or remain in a sleep state.

You will find many threads using different techniques to isolate mystery electrical gremlins if you use the search in the upper-right corner.

Sometimes a thermal imaging device will help find the culprit. Some use a multimeter to measure voltage drops across the fuses in the TIPM.

The voltage drops can be converted to a current draw using a spreadsheet. See attachment.

I like to use a DC Clamp meter. Then start removing fuses to isolate the source.

What type of trailer? If you are talking like an RV type with accessories, possible something in RV pulled down battery.

Otherwise, 1st thing as suggested by RamDiver, it is possible the battery just quit. There is no QC on batteries anymore, and the heat in Austin not help.

If you believe battery good, than next option, and can be time consuming, is searching for a parasitic draw. There are many threads in this forum on how to accomplish that task.

ADDED: software controls modules, and there is the possibility a computer module or a lot are not going into sleep mode. That could be an expensive Dealer Diagnosis, unless you are still under warranty, than that helps. Just FYI, there are computer modules in these drugs that have milliamp draws, THAT never shut down.

Good luck on yer search.

Like turkeybird said, if it was your trailer drawing the current, there is no way to shut it off except for un-plugging the connection. I never plug my RV into the truck unless the engine is running. One time I used the remote start feature (I rarely use this), and when I shut the truck off the evic display (times out in couple minutes) never shut off like its supposed to do. I had to remove the battery connection to reset that glitch, otherwise it would have run the battery flat dead.

Why did you charge the truck the night prior to a trip?

Did you suspect you had a marginal battery?

Thanks all, truck is still under warranty and I am coming back from a trip.

I like to keep the battery topped off and the charger also let's me know if there are any issues with the battery.

Had the battery, Alternator and starter checked, out fine.

Dash gauges seem a little off, max fuel range now is 280 with an empty 8.5x 20 tall enclosed trailer, 3200lbs empty and not going over 65.
Average fuel mileage gauge says is 9 mpg . If I have a 31 gallon tank that would make since.

Max range empty was 411 miles.

Volt meter gauge used to read 14 to 14.1, started this morning at 13.8 and now steady at 13.5.

Back in May on another trip the dash gauges locked up preventing my from scrolling thru all the gauges.

Ended up removing the negative battery terminal for about an hour that fixed the issue.

I'll disconnect the negative terminal when I get home and if that doesn't work, see the dealer.

Would anyone know or had their software updated in their truck?

Thanks all!

AI had this to say.
