This Motortrend article about Ram coming out with the Dakota after over a decade since they stopping making them. It's interesting because it doesn't seem like Ram is real confident about if they will go after the the Dakota market again. Hopefully they do. Price is projected to start at $26,000 (in todays market) and could easily end up around $60k after all the upgrades. Guess we will have to see if this becomings a reality

They've been running these clickbait articles for years. The telling part is " But what form might a new Dakota take? So far, Stellantis isn't saying."

Here's the 2021 version: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a35713584/ram-reportedly-still-developing-new-dakota/

2020 version, complete with 'later this year' and expected pricing: https://www.caranddriver.com/ram/dakota

and back to Motortrend with the 2019 version where they claimed it would be launched in 2020: https://www.motortrend.com/news/new-ram-dakota-midsize-truck-renderings-rumors/

All of these are manufactured stories in place of real information to get clicks, which means cash.

Probably right. Especially with the huge push for electric

Ain't happening unless it's electric.
In which case it'll be fugly and useless.
For sure. Wonder if they decide to produce the Dakota and make it electric? Probably not

They could easily make one as a corporate twin to the Gladiator. Minimal R&D, more than badge engineering but basically a re-skin. Nicer interior, more RAM-esque lines, done.

The cool thing about the Dakota when it came out was it was actually a midsize truck. It was bigger than an S-10 or Ranger but not as big as the full size trucks of the day. As trucks and SUVs have continued to grow, both due to supposed market preference and due to the oddity of CAFE standards and footprint rules, the Ranger and Not-An-S10 are significantly larger than their 1990's counterparts. The Dakota would enter a fairly crowded marketspace of now similarly sized options. Another market differentiator was the V8 engine, where as 6 or 4 cylinders in the competition. Not that they couldn't do a 392 Dakota, but outside of maybe a few special trims if they hurry it's going to be Pentastar as top dog. Is it worth it to spool up a midsize to be an also ran, competing with Chevy/GMC and Ford to eat the crumbs of the market space that Toyota drops? And how many of those crumbs will be lost Gladiator sales instead of actual conquest sales?

I doubt Stellantis thinks so or is willing to do anything as out of the box as the original Dakota or the current Maverick to punch their way in.

I have been clicking on that clickbait, as i would defiantly be interested in a mid size. I had a line of s10s, but when buying another truck a few years back, was amazed to see the same engine and specs in the new Colorado as my 94 s10. Meanwhile the bigger 1500 blew all chevy/nissans specs out of the water for less money. Think ram could do some good things jumping into this market as the gladiator not really priced for the basic user and there is a need for a smaller pickup. Just hope Ram remembers they are building a Truck and keep the bed size and towing/payload as a priority. Drives me nuts on the mid size chevy/ford/nissan if u get a crew cab that can hold actual adults, you loose 12-24 inches of bed, defeating the purpose of having a truck in the 1st place.
Any dream configurations out there in case they really do release in 24?

Better be a 6.4L in it to make it worth while.

With manufacturers moving to more global platforms, could this 1200 test bed become the basis for a new midsize Ram?

They could base it on the Durango. Already have almost everything they would need. Just add a bed.
I've been seeing these "stories" since '17 at least, would have bought one if available.
