I need to swap the ecm on my '22 6.7 Cummins and I want to put a '19 - '21 ecm in it but most of the tuner sites are sold out of that particular ecm. However, I found that I can order one direct from Mopar for less than $2400. Has anyone gone this route? Or is there a likelyhood that they will ship the ecm with the newer locked software installed on it (even thought the part number is for the earlier 5th gen ecm)?

If you order the correct part number you will get the correct ECM, they don't change the firmaware without changing the part number. With that said, I'd verify that Mopar site actually has it in stock, I'd bet they don't based on the tuners not being able to get them.

Thanks mtnrider - the description of the item says "Unprogrammed Engine Control Module". Does that mean it's a bare-metal module with NO software loaded on it? Or, does it just mean that it is not programmed to a specific VIN?

I believe a new ECM comes without any software loaded onto it. The dealership uses WiTech to load the latest version of software for that particular VIN. Dealerships are really locked down on what they're able to do when writing stuff to vehicles.

That's what I was afraid of. Sounds like it's not really a viable option as the latest software for my VIN is going to be the locked version.

Doing a little more research on this with RaceMe Official in Austria, they can supply a recovery file to flash on the new ecm but the bootloader has to be version 02.04.03.05 or older. Does anyone know how to tell which bootloader is on a new ecm without actually plugging it in? I'm sure that once I put power to it I won't be able to return it if it's the wrong bootloader.
