Will this be the one millionth tire thread? Will I get a prize? :Big Laugh:

Seriously, though I'd like to run my thinking by you guys. Feel free to take potshots at my logic. :biggun:

So, the parameters are:
The suspension will remain stock.
It will be fully articulated on the trail.

As far as tire choices, I've never been a big fan of a lot of poke, that's just my taste. It is the right choice for soft muddy terrain and sand, but I'm more likely to be squeezing between the rocks or trees on a trail made for Jeeps. So I prefer to keep the tires stuffed in.

I have run 35-12.5 and 315/70 on previous Rams, on the stock wheels, and been pretty happy. Had a bit of rubbing, though. Now I'm trying to get up to speed on the Gen 5.

It's my understanding from what I've read that the 35 or 315 choice on stock wheels is going to rub slightly on the control arms and / or the sway bar. Looking at the stock tire position that seems to be likely. Anyone think that's not true?

So... if I want 35's without rub (and I do), then I need to buy wheels, yes?

Which brings me to the next question, which is if I'm buying wheels, why not go to 18" and get this tire? Then I can stay with the 11" width and keep the tires stuffed in, while still getting that extra inch of ground clearance, fill those empty wheel wells, and avoid rubbing?

Your thoughts?

Pretty sure a 35x12.5 tire will fit your stock PW rims with no rub fully flexed out. Heck some guy's are runing 37's. If 35's did rub it would be ever so slightly. The PW rims are a special forged rim with an internal bead lock lip to help keep the tire seated when your aired down off road which is a big plus over aftermarket wheels. Also if your driving in soft sand you'll want a wider tire like a 12.5". The taller sidewall of the 17" wheel vs 18" wheel is helpful as well when aired down.

FWIW I run 305/70/17 Toyo's on my Wagon which is about a 34" X 12" tire and I have zero rub. Next set will be 35's.

Kenda makes a 35x10.5 in their Klever RT

Another member here posted a few pics of it a little while back.

I like the 285-75-18 option...actually a little taller than a traditional 35/12.50 just not as wide reducing the chance of rubbing. Nitto offers that as well as an actual 35-11.50 r 18 E in the trail grappler. Going to an 18 does seem to give you a few more tire options size wise.

Really wish there was a 295/75-18 or 305/75-18 option but now I’m getting a little picky.

I really like the fuel vector 18x9 in the gray finish, unfortunately it’s only offered in a +1 offset....they offer the black in a +20 doesn’t make a lot of sense. I think I will be ok if I run the 11.5 wide tires though.

285/75-18 Ridge grapplers (35x11.5) on a 9x19 +18 offset wheel just for reference. My truck does have a 2.3" level but I know the power wagon sits slightly higher then a stock 2500.

There is room on a power wagon for a 37-12.50 with the proper offset. About +18-23 range should do you good. Shouldn’t be any trouble with a 285-75. There is room on a stock 2500 Cummins for a 37 on that 18-23 offset with no lift and minor running per Thuren so you shouldn’t have any trouble with a 285-75
