285 or 275 or stick to 265 tires?

Would 285/70/17s fit the truck without having to alter the stock suspension? Would you recommend them or should I go for 275s or stick to 265s?

Many of the Rams come stock with 275/60R20, which is 33” X 11” ... The 285/70R17’s are the same height as that, and just a 1/2” wider ... They will fit fine, they will look great, and you have a ton of options in that size

Keep in mind those stock rims are only 7" wide. The minimum "recommended" width on the 285/70, is 7.5". It's not that big of deal, but some tire shops may not mount them.

I second this. I was actually on the same dilemma a month ago (have the stock 17 x 7" wheels). I was going to pull the trigger on some 285/70 R17 Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT even though it's a bit wider but have seen a few Ram owners on this site using the same size without issues. They add about 1.2 inches tall compared to the stock 265s but they're 0.8" wider.

I ended up getting a set of Cooper AT3 4s in 255/75 R17. They're roughly the same height as the 275/70 but is a much more popular size so I ended up saving about $30 per tire.
If you want more sidewall without over stressing the stock wheel width, the best bet is a 255/80 R17 tire (a notch over 33"), but those are expensive and a bit hard to find.5eefd12867422ff82f26e6f65bd7f8f0.jpg

The 285's on 17 X 7" stock wheels had just absolutely terrible handling characteristics on bends and turns - mainly if hitting a bump or hitting the brakes fast - when I had them on my 2016.
Fit fine though.

A good option, is to find a set of Rebel wheels as they are wider and came stock 285/70/17 tires.

Don't put 285's in 7" wheels.
Go with 255/80/17 (33") or 235/80/17 (32"), they'll wear down and perform better mounted in 7" wheels than 285/70 tires.

Have fun.

Jesus ? 235’s ? That’s about as wide as a railroad car wheel ... That won’t look weird at all ...

315/55r20 is what I was running before and they weren't bad. Only rubbed at full lock in reverse.

Yeah that's only 12.4 wide. 2.25 inches wider each side. Run a lower tire pressure to keep the center from bulging up and you're good. Looks alot better than those guys running around with stretched tires. [emoji6]

Looks better to me than the mall crawler wannabes with the 6" lift and 35x12.5 on 40" wide wheels :)
Go with a more aggresive thread and some spacers and it should look fairly decent, not counting the new improvements in mpg and performance.
Pizza cutters are not for everybody but they sure work very well.
