Hey guys wanting some input. Looking to put 35s on my ram with 24s possibly. Question is with 3.21 gears will it be a complete dog? I do have the 8 speed which helps some. On the other hand if it's a huge effect I may stay with a 12 wides and do 33s. Also no plans to tune and I'm only going to run a 4in lift due to clearance.

35s on 20s here, not even remotely close to slow. I do have a few mods but even when it was bone stock, it still didn't disappoint. Something to strongly consider when choosing which 35 to go with - tire weight. Not sure how 24s will compare to 20s.... assuming yours never leaves the road if 24s are even being considered.

I felt a power loss with 35’s and my gearing is 3.92. However definitely not a “dog.”

As mentioned above, factor in tire weight. That makes a huge difference. Run an AT tire.

For example, my Toyo MT’s are roughly 13 pounds per tire heavier than BFG KO2’s of the same size. Sounds insignificant but the difference in rotational mass is very noticeable.

You won’t need a lift if you go to do 12 wide and 33’s just keep that in the back of your mind if you decide to go that route

I have the 5 speed 65RFE trans, and I felt the change from stock 33's to 35's, it's not a dog a by all means, but the truck doesn't have the same peppy feeling from when i was running the factory size, doesn't help the truck has to push 100lbs per corner of unsprung weight because of the tires/wheels setup

If you want to compare Gear X Final drive between the 8 speed with 3.21's and 6 speed with 3.92, it'll give you a better perspective:

8 Speed Trans
1st:4.71:1 x 3.21 = 18.46
2nd: 3.14:1 x 3.21 = 10.07
3rd: 2.10:1 x 3.21 = 6.74
4th: 1.66:1 x 3.21 = 5.32
5th: 1.28:1 x 3.21 = 4.10
6th: 1.00:1 x 3.21 = 3.21
7th: 0.83:1 x 3.21 = 2.66
8th: 0.66:1 x 3.21 = 2.11
R: 3.30 x 3.21 = 10.59

Compared that to the 6speed
1st 3.00:1 x 3.92 = 11.76
2nd 1.67:1 x 3.92 = 6.54
3rd 1.50:1 x 3.92 = 5.88
4th 1.00:1 x 3.92 = 3.92
5th 0.75:1 x 3.92 = 2.94
6th 0.67:1 x 3.92 = 2.62
R: 3.00:1 x 3.92 = 11.76

The 8 speed with 3.21's will have a better physical levarage to push 35's compared to the 6 speed with 3.92's, so you'll be more than ok with 35's and 3.21's with that trans.

Have fun.

I went with 4.56 gears on my 2009 to get me back close to the 3.92 ratio my truck came with.

No slow at all with 3.92 but so much fun with the 4.56’s :)

There a few ways to do it. AEV makes a little dongle that can re-calibrate along with add a few things like multiblink to pass, disable fog light drop out, change TPMS, etc. The new Ram Tazer from Z Automotive can also do it along with a few bells and whistles if you leave it plugged in (Lincoln style power fold, line lock, light show, etc). Rough Country has their GPS calibrator deal which is what I use on my truck since it's easy and doesn't require a chalk test or playing with various values.

I have the 8 speed and 321 gears and 8th gear doesnt seem to get used much especially in the hills or wind. Also at 65 mph its running around 1500 rpm. Hiw much do 35's effect the rpms and the transmission hunting for gears?
