Hey guys & gals, I got a MotorTrend newsletter today and it had an ad for this stuff on it. I've NEVER used it and don't endorse it, but thought it may interest someone.

It looks much like Plasti-Dip, but it looks much more optically clear IMO.

Anyway... Here's a link to 3M's site for it. If this isn't allowed, please delete the thread.

Interesting. Wonder how it holds up with being sprayed on versus an actual piece of material

It's pretty interesting to me. Especially "Wax, THEN apply"
But I guess that's to make sure it doesn't stick to a old crappy car with totally oxidized paint trying to scam 3M.

I'm considering ordering up some before I got o TX. With how my front bumper looks already, I certainly don't see it doing any harm!

Might not be a bad idea to use it on the door sill, I wonder how durable it is. Reason I say door sill is because our shoes scuff them up pretty good and it is hidden in the insance the instalaltion goes wrong.

Many years ago my grandpa told me to use peanut oil on the front of my car to help bugs slide right off. OMG DON'T EVER DO THAT!
It was as hard as old tar to get off.
I would try this if I had a big road trip to do; the wax simply acts as a release agent, like when making a mold.

I watched the video and checked youtube for some reviews. Looks like when cured it is a film similar to the clear bra stuff. I am really curious about this, as it would save me a tonne of cash. Only problem is that it is good for a year, and will probably need to be removed the moment the ends start curling up.

I have a clear bra on my G8 right now and I'm not sure I'll ever do it again. They're OK for certain areas of the car and they DO keep the front fairly clean, but I think I'd rather spend the money repainting the car in several years. JMO

You CAN buy temp clear bra material to put on when you you're traveling or what not. Problem for me is I'm on the highway everyday. I think I'll just let the RAM eat the rocks. I'll keep it for three years so the next person can worry about it! lol

This is basically what I used plasti dip for. So far, so good, it has caught a couple if rock and held up well. With a black truck the chips would show up so easy it would bug the crap out if me. IMO I think the front few inches of the hood and the plastic above the bumper needs to be covered. I also put about a two inch strip at the bottom of the bed right behind the cab. I looked into having a clear bra professionally put on and they wanted like $500, I didn't think it was worth quite that much so I gave the plasti dip a try. If I would have known about this I might have preferred the optical clarity, but the matte black plasti dip actually sets the truck off pretty nicely. I had a clear bra on my Camaro and it made a world of difference.

hmm... the wax thing interested me too. the only problem I see with it is that if it acts as a release agent, I wonder how many times it would take to wash the car, before your rags start peeling it off.

Surprised I missed this when you first created the thread chris, but thanks for posting the link. That stuff looks pretty sweet. Definitely would be very useful during bug season. Especially since we're getting those damn 17 year cicadas around this area this year :gr_guns:

Asked my brother about this stuff since he's real big into detailing
He said it works really well but is expensive, sure enough it's $30 a can

Yes, and this as you see in the video offers more protection than PD. I'm going to spray my iPhone with it! :jnono:
