I just wanted to start a discussion where we show our aftermarket 3rd brake lights off for others to see what's out there and how they look along with how reliable it has been.

I'll start with one thing is I'll never trust the weather stripping just cause of horror stories I've heard where others would have issues with water getting into their cab, I came across some solutions where you tape around the opening and leave room for the harness to fit threw afterwards which has worked great for me (I even double taped, pictures below). Not only that but I replaced the gasket on my 3rd brake light with a more quality brand, but didn't bother to with the morimoto light.

My first aftermarket 3rd brake light was the NJSBYL LED 3rd brake light, odd name but this was an Amazon find - I got this before the morimoto even had one and thought it looked pretty nice actually and wasn't expensive at all plus has no issues for the 9 months I used it:

Now I have the Morimoto X3B LED brake light which I think has a really nice housing, if it weren't for that I would've probably kept with my 1st decision.

It looks like this is a very old thread that never really got answered and I'm new in town, so I hope you're not still looking, but here's my experience with this:

I swapped out my third brake light with an Amazon special before I'd heard of the infamous Third Brake Light/ Key Fob connection. After prying off the old light and cleaning the miles of silicone used to glue it on, i applied my own miles of silicone and glued on the smoked LED that I'd bought. Thus began my key fob problems. With much research and frustration, I ordered a couple rolls of Faraday Tape and Duct Tape (the aluminum stuff). I pried off the new LED light, re-cleaned the silicone I'd put on the weekend before, and thoroughly lined the interior light-hole with first a layer of the Duct Tape then a layer of the Faraday tape (Unfortunately, in my frustration, I forgot to get a picture of this). Then I applied yet another layer of Faraday Tape on the back of the LED light unit. Reapplying more miles of silicone, I reinstalled the third brake light.
This actually worked for a full 2 weeks before my key fob just up and died. While I was at work. An hour from home. So, I had the truck towed home and made an appointment at the local Dodge stealership to replace the key fob. 1.5 weeks later and $500 poorer, I had a brand-new key fob and a smoked 3rd brake light.
Haven't had an issue since.
