Quick question: did you have to do any grinding on the case? Or did it just plug and play (as much as gears can, lol)?

No grinding at all bud. Everything went together like it was factory gears

Thad actually called us during the install, and said that they did not have to do any grinding inside the housing when installing these gears. I have had 6 customers get back to us now that have these installed, and none of them have had to grind the inner housing.

Thanks! Sounds great. Really looking forward to this!

Ran into another quick question on this: I ordered the Mag-Hytec diff cover. Any issues with it fitting?

No fitment problems with the mag hytec cover unless your truck is lowered. If it is lowered, then you may have to trim a small u shaped bracket off the frame as it can make contact with the cover when the suspension bottoms out. I did this on both of my lowered rams.

Sweet. No issue, there. She's a lifted beauty now.

Haven't been installed yet. I'll let you know, but I'm sure there are others who can testify.

I went from 3.92's to 4.56's in my crew cab, and it was night and day.

On my regular cab, I went from 3.55's to 4.10's, and then from 4.10's to 4.56's. I felt very noticeable gains on each switch. These motors make good power, but a higher gear ratio really helps you put that power to the ground.

Matt is spot on with this, I went 355 open diff to 410's LSD and it was one of the best things I did. BUT, if I could do it over again I would go 456, love my 410's but now I'm considering this swap.

These may be stupid questions but:

1. Is there an easy way to tell if I have an open diff or LSD?
2. Is there an issue with running different gears in rear vs front on a 4wd?

Go to this wed site and under your vehicle on the left hand side click on the Equipment Listing and put in your vin number; you will get a complete build sheet in seconds. And the gears in the front and back need to match, no way around that. FYI your vin letters must be capitalized for it to work.

Thanks for that information. I don't see LSD listed on build sheet. But basically I am still screwed as there is nothing available for the front gears yet.

You can also turn off traction control and punch it and see if it's a 1 wheel peal. What gears do you have?

I currently have 3.55 but thinking of going to a 6" lift and with my 35s on it now it feels bogged down low.

I think a 3000 stall torque converter would be a good option. Puts you right in the power off the line.

Truck is in the shop now getting the gears swapped. I'm looking at going with Amsoil 75w-110 for the diff fluid. Anybody know how much to put in with the Mag-Hytec cover?

I'm noticing that my truck is doing a lot of engine braking at speeds above 30-40mph when I let off the gas. Is that normal with these gears, or is something amiss? Also seems like the tranny is a little noisier. Is there any specific tranny tuning required for these gears? All I did was drop in a canned tune for the ratio and tire size adjustment that corrected the speedo error. I also killed the MDS in the tune, not sure if that makes a difference. Seems like the shift points are right, but I'm not an expert either. Maybe the TC going bad? Any help is appreciated.

It is completely normal for it to feel the engine brake with a higher gear ratio like this. The higher the gear ratio, the more you will notice this.

And the transmission should not be making any noise because of a gear swap. It is fairly normal to get a little bit of gear noise when installing an aftermarket gear. You normally hear it at cruising speeds around 45-60mph...its usually when you give it just enough throttle to maintain speed. And tuning is not needed for a gear swap in these trucks because the truck reads speed at the wheel sensors, not te differential.
