are the 4th gen 4.7s different from the ones in the 3rd gens that have all the head and cooling problems. or did dodge unphuck themselves. Looking to trade in the 04 for a 09 and the 4.7s are so much cheaper. or should i wait for the funding for a new 5.7. also whats the diff in fuel mileage

The 4.7s in the 08 and up rams have 310hp instead of 245.

4.7s any good ?

Need some advice.
Looking to trade in my Dakota for a Ram Quad Cab.
My first Dakota had the V6 and I hated it, always down shifting looking for the right gear for any hill on the highway. I bought the 4.7 Dakota and the power was perfect, gas mileage was better. I can get great prices on the Ram 4.7 so my question is will this engine in the larger truck be a dog and act like a V6 in a Dakota ? I don't need mega power like the Hemi and realize the mileage is the same. Just don't want an underpowered truck. :help::confused:

That's pretty expensive. Around here you can get a brand new 4 door (don't remember if quad or crew) lonestar/big horn with hemi for $20,999 as part of the big finish

If you are talking about an 08 or up Ram with a 4.7 then you will have plenty of power. The 08 and up 4.7s have 310hp which is plenty to get these trucks moving.

+1 on what shadow said. The 4.7 make the same power as the ford triton 5.4 so it won't be slow like the v6 dakota was. Will it be a speed demon, no. Will it have power and get up and go, yes. The 4.7 was actually my first choice, cause of the power it has, until the R/T with hemi was delivered. As mileage goes, hemi and 4.7 seem to be on par on paper

Yeah, more people with 4.7's. I love mine, and it has plenty of power. Im planning a small twin turbo setup that way I can shoot for some speed and fuel eceonomy. If your looking at a new ram definatly look at the 4.7.

I think the superchips web site says that the SC3865 will add about 50hp and 50ftlbs to the 08 and up trucks. That puts them about the same as a stock hemi.

yup it sure does say that, but why would dodge de-tune it that much? Thats a hella lotta power just waiting there, I would like to see someone try this. 50hp is a hella-lot from a tuner.

Those numbers seen blown up unless dodge put a really crappy tune on them

Edit: They have dyno charts but the 87 only raises like 4 hp and torque, while the 91 raises it like 20 hp which seems a lot for a little octane jump
