Well first of im a FNG here. First thread here. I've been a dodge fan since I've started driving at 14. Its been a dream of mine to have a dodge that's so called "quick". So now I've started a build on a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4. Transmission is fresh but the engine...228000 original miles and still tickin away but a little tired. Just recently ordered a 408 scat stroker kit. Still waitin on arrival may be a couple of weeks yet. But I had a few questions im hoping someone on here can answer. With the 408 Is the stock oil pan and valve covers going to be any sort of issue? And no I'm not to sure what size of cam is going in there yet. I left that for the engine builders to decide. Not going for a monster but I still wanna do it right. As far as the ignition I found a cap, rotor, wires and a upgraded coil on summitracing.com. Oil pump and water pump im going with high flow. (might as well since its all right there right??) is there any tips on some small things that may help with this engine build at all?. And one more question as far as the fuel system. What will need to upgraded there? Injector size or any of that? Or is that what tuning will take care of? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Stock oil pan will be fine unless you went with with a hi volume oil pump. Then the pan won't be...you'll need more oil pan capacity to feed the hi flow pump.
I don't know what summit sells for a tune up kit, but usually these can be pieced together for less money and better parts to boot. You need a cap and rotor with brass contacts, and a JEGs coil and taylor 8.5 wires. The cap and rotor can be purchased locally. You'll need a wire harness adapter for the coil which is an Accel part (and the only Accel part you should ever use) and that should do it.

I'd wait to install fuel injectors until you have a tune built for it. This is assuming you're not attempting to use your stock tune in your ECU. Hint: A superchips isn't gonna cut it. You'll need a reprogramable tuner like a SCT. I mention this because you didn't.

EDIT: If your new oil pump is a hi pressure pump your stock pan is fine.

ok thanks for the answers. and it wasnt a tune up kit it was an upgraded kit and i believe the accel coil was part of the kit im not a for sure about that. but yes i was going to ask more questions about the tuning to the guys doing it. since you brought it up... when the tune is done do they rewrite the factory tune or does the factory ECU need a piggy back? you may of answered that already in your last reply but idk honestly

You'll need an entirely new tune. Tuners like Superchips and hypertech are for mildly modded engines at best because they piggyback the stock tune.
Tuners like SCTs or similar replace the factory program completely and can be rewritten as needed. I would contact Sean (hemifever) at the SCT thread in the vendor area.

I used run Accel..when it was made in America and owned by Echlin (Napa). Now it's imported cheaply made overpriced crap.

For example, I run Taylor wires, a MSD coil (which does nothing) and Borg Warner cap and rotor. When you start making over 450 RWHP we can talk about upgrading.

Alright thanks man that answers my questions. Now that's what i here haha 450 to the rear tires ;-) ya right ha im not dropping 10+k. Doing it on budget. im in the 5k completely finished so i don't wanna waste a bunch of money on stuff that's not really any sort of benefit. That includes torque converter, intake, headers, and exhaust. But thanks again now lets see If i can make my way around the site here and find Sean.

Intrested in your build, what neck of the woods are you in?

around 4-450.

okie is giving you great advice.all is right on.

I was hoping you might have something to add.

I'd be suprised if he would make 450 rwhp on a T/B non supercharged motor but I could be wr....nah! Now 400 ft lbs of torque....I could see that!

EDIT: Talon... The reason I don't think it wll happen is I did a little math on your "drag race thread" a while back and came up with 419 rwhp based on your advertised run. A non supercharged motor will be a bit less. I admit there are some variables on the OPs motor we don't know, like the cam...and the heads.

450 would be tops. more than likely, like 350 rwhp.

We agree! :High 5: I hope the OP won't be disappointed. 400ft lbs and 350 rwhp will move that Ram a whole lot better than the tired stocker had...

Thinking of doing this myself when the time comes. Probably try the Hughes intake, R/T heads but with 1:7 rockers and a stock cam.

Does anyone have a direct link or somebody on this forum rework the factory throttle body? I found a link a while back but I can't seem to find it again. And an update on the build I took the engine to the engine builders and it should be done in a month to month and a half.

Yes here's the update. Had a delay in the heads. Using a EQ iron ram head. Because both mine I took in were cracked. Also found that fact. Throttle body reworked. K and n air intake. Hughes engines plenum repair kit. The ecu I sent off to Arrington performance last week and will be back by this week Friday. ^ 1 for costumer service! The old engine is out. Pulled it last weekend and the stroker should be done within the next week to week n half. Guess that brings me to my next concern. When I pulled the engine I pulled out the dist. First so it didn't slam against the firewall....but...there was a red plastic sleeve deal that broke and I'm not a 100% sure where it come from. Can anyone help me out with that?

and also I am runnin a 2700 stall as far as the transmission goes. I had the before dyno done and it put something like 160whp and will be doing an after dyno after the break in. Like said before I will post pics but I had to get my laptop fixed haven't had the greatest luck lately lol! Once again any knowledge with that sleeve off the distributor would be in great help thanks!

You're gonna want to get 36lb injectors for a 408 with iron ram heads. Then start your tune off that.

I talked to Hughes engines and this is that is what they recommend because apparently the stock injectors were good up to or around 400hp.

I got 25 lb injectos I did not say that in the post above. I told them exactly what I had n what I was doing and that is what they recommend. At this point I'm just trying to figure out where that plastic piece come from off the distributor.

Well here's an update. Dropped it in last Saturday all said n done first bump of the key n it took off.just having an issue with a light pedal cruise say 35 mph and on. It leans out and misfires. But if you are actually using the throttle it will richen up enough to blow black smoke. Everything's been checked all the way to tryin the factory injectors (that didn't help any) . And the new ones are 24 not 25lb injectors.
