Hi

I decided to take my truck for a spin in a mall parking lot to familiarize myself with the 4WD setting.

I noticed that there was a lot of tire squealing during turns.

When I switched back into 2wd there was no tire squealing.

Is it normal for the tires to squeal when in 4wd during turns?

You will eat up tires and drivetrain if turning sharp on a hard service.

. . . on a hard, dry surface. It is ***not*** All Wheel Drive. While the outside radius tire turns easily, the inside radius tire is forced by the differential to make the same number of wheel rotations. It is possible to destroy the differential by doing repeatedly what you did just the one time.

In my best Jeff Spicoli Voice:::

Wwwwwhhhhooooaaaa Duuuuude.

Step away from the truck, Sir, just step away from the Truck.

let's light one up and think about this, for a Spell.

4X4 means all wheels turn (Not really but go with me here)

SO, if it is nice and dry, so dry there is no loss of traction , what is going to slip?

The tires.

But,But, But, Pavement is nice and dry, how can the tires slip?
By Sliding, Hopping, Jumping,
OOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
By connecting with the pavement , just enough, that something in the drive train, to the tires, pops and slips.
Which, when it comes to gears, against gears, is never a good thing.

Think of yourself "running", in place, on ice, until your shoe actually grips, like steel and your knee pops out of your leg.

Not Good Duuuuuuude, not good.
Put the blunt, down, and let[ps go do this 4x4 testing somewhere SAFE to do so, like in 12 inches of white stuff.

No, no, no, Duude, not T H A T kind of White Stuff
