I want to make sure I'm doing this right so I don't screw anything up. When I switch my truck into 4low I stop put it in neutral and then slide the drive shaft lever forward. The problem is getting back out of 4low. I stop put it back in neutral and try to slide it back but it stops in the neutral position and won't let me slide it back to 2h. The only way to get it to go back to 2h is to put the truck back in drive and then switch it. But it's really rough feeling and bumpy when it switches. Am I doing this wrong? Or it normal?

When I had my 02, moving from 4L to 2H I always found that having the truck rolling just ever so slightly while in neutral to allow the gears to mesh from low to high as you move the lever worked best. Find a slight grade and use the brakes to allow slight motion.

I wouldn't do it in gear, I always had it in neutral and just barely rolling.

I figured it out. After going in 4low reverse for a bit and shift into neutral while rolling and drop to 2hi. Smooth as a whistle.

Funny found it on a jeep forum. Had to jump in my truck in sandels and boxers to test it. Of course I didn't forget the pilsners ether lol. Lexury of having a big open yard.

I found out with mine if you just keep pressure on it and don't pause in neutral it will go in and out just fine, but if you pause in neutral at all it is a pain going in or out of 4 low.
