2003 Ram 1500 manual shift 4x4 transfer case model NP241. Acts as if it is trying to lock in to 4x4 but front end just bucks and kicks and makes a chattering noise. What could this be?

It may not be engaging all the way, try looking at the linkage to see if it’s loose or needs adjusting.
