My manual 2500 2007 5.7 if finally getting tired and I want to buy a 6.4 truck factory crate motor to replace it with. The mechanical aspect should be no problem for me but the computer aspect of things is another story. Does anyone know who the authority would be on this. Gotta believe this is going to be a popular swap as the fleet of 5.7 liters age.

If you had an 09 this would be a damn near drop in swap. You do not have a VVT engine, the factory 6.4 is. Different crank tone wheel, next gen CAN bus. Your Computer setup will not run it. It is possible to adapt, but you tend to lose some functionality (I assume you like your cruise control, etc). 6.4 also has active intake which either requires the next gen PCM to run or requires an RPM switch to activate it. After paying for everything cost wise you'd be ahead either rebuilding your 5.7 or stroking it to a 6.4.

What’s the average cost on a normal 5.7 rebuild and maybe adding a cam to it?

Six months later lol...at least we know the search function works.
It will vary by what parts get used and who does the work. Stock style rebuild vs rebuild with upgrades (to what extent), basic machine work and you're putting it together vs having a shop put it together, pull and install etc.

Yeah I’m doing a compression test to make sure only the cam and lifters were effected. If I can rebuild just the top end with a new cam and lifters, I’ll go that route. It’s my Daily and not looking for crazy power. Just need enough to make my 35’s feel like stock :)

Then you have to decide if you intend to keep VVT and MDS; these will directly affect your cam decision. By the way, you have a 4th gen, this is the 3rd gen section lol. You'll probably get better answers there.
