Well today the truck hit 50K miles. What is the general maintenance needed to be done? I could probably look it up but figured I would go to the world wide answers of RF.

Plugs, oil change, fuel system cleaning, and avoiding seafoam

That's what I did (minus avoiding seafoam)

Trust me, it's a world full of problems in a can

Ok as far as the fuel system cleaning goes is that a DIY? Never done it before. I am going to change the oil Saturday and will do the plugs then as well.

Yeah it's a DIY, go to the auto parts store and you will find a few different brands on the shelf to choose from. It's pretty straight forward

Interested to see why you are against seafoam. I have had great luck with it in my previous cars.

Well, it caused the CEL to come on and ran rough and like crap for about 100 miles, and 15,000 miles later, still doesn't run right between 1300-1800 rpms

Spark plugs may be fouled but not 100% sure yet

Anyways that's just my experience. Other guys on this form will say similar things about it

Haha I'd love to but paying off my ladies law school restricts my budget since she still has 18 months left but then I will be trading up for a power wagon.

Just think, you should be able to get a '14 Wagon, with quad coils and 6.4 SIIICK!

I took my plugs out at 50k and they still looked like brand new. Put them back in and ran to 100k yet STILL looked brand new (not sure how). That's personally when I replaced them. Unless your truck is running rough I would hold off. Of course that's my personal opinion.

I love diy but with oil changes im a little timid.... I know that just removing the oil plug to drain the oil, then replace the oil filter. But I have a couple of questions on that all important 30k maintance.

1. Is there anything u need to do after you drain all of the old oil from the engine? After removing all of the oil, do you need to clean anything so all of the old oil is gone from the engine then just pour in new oil? I usually go to the dealer to get it done, but this time I wanft to put in royal purple oil.
2. Spark plug change......is there any type specific tourque that you have to tighten up the plugs to, or do you just tighten them up as tight as possible? Im more worried about breaking them then anything else.

I will do more research a little later..im sure there is plenty of info on this on this great site...but I just wanted to see if its better to diy ( and save money) whereas just getting it to the dealer for peace of mind.

You absolutely don't want to tighten spark plugs as tight as possible. They actually require very little torque compared to most fasteners. I don't know what the torque specs are for your truck so somebody else may chime in. Make sure to add anti seize to the threads and dielectric grease to the end of the spark plug that connects to the coils.

As for oil change- Drain, remove filter, install drain plug, put a light film of oil on filter gasket, fill new filter with oil, put on new filter, fill engine with oil, start engine, check level. No special "cleaning" needed.

Yeah oil yourself on the trucks is simple in my mind. It makes it even easier being lifted very easy to get under the motor.

What Diller said, use anti-seize on the threads of the spark plugs, and very little torque. I see you have an 4.7 which, unless I'm mistaken, has iron heads and calls for 20 ft/lbs torque on the plugs. The Hemi's with aluminum heads are spec'd at 13 ft/lbs.

As far as the oil change, just make sure your old filter gasket comes off with the filter before you install the new one. I've seen the old one stick to the block, then when the new one goes on, double gaskets. One took a few minutes of driving before the engine was dry. This happened at one of the 15 minute oil change places.

Yes, I believe the recommended mileage to replace the plugs is 30k. Bring on the Power Wagon!
