Recently I read online that FCA had 2500 Limited trucks sitting on their lots with electrical issues to be resolved. Also there was a forum member here that is having issues with his 12’ screen just 200 miles inn.

Is FCA quality really that bad? I have never bought American always bought Japanese or German.

I Was thinking of trading inn my 2016 4Runner Limited for a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited but if that quality sucks it may be best to just keep the 4Runner and save up for a 2019 Raptor...

Sounds like an awfully small sampling is having issues and there are a LOT of good trucks out there with no problems at all.

In terms of all their vehicles, FCA does a good job with regard to fit, finish and overall build quality with the Ram line. It's a big money maker for them.

Short answer, no. FCA quality isn't " really that bad ".

I rarely buy first gen products... just asking to be a beta tester.

Same goes for vehicles. I could have picked up the 19 however paying a premium for a truck (compared to 18) I know will have teething pains... no thanks.

That's what a warranty is for. I've never quite understood the whole " i don't want to be a beta tester ". You don't want to test a new radio? You don't want to test the aerodynamics? I don't understand. What is it you don't want to test exactly? The trucks are " all new " , but 90% of the components that make them other than the new 12 inch radios are not all new.

Motor hasn't changed... at least not that we know of. Coolant heated/cooled rear diff, new electronics, mild hybrid assist (yes not there yet but it's a major drivetrain change), and I'm sure there's more....

Sure warranty is great for the big stuff. I just don't have the time or patience to deal with going to the dealer. I got a 2011 Wrangler before the changeover to the pentastar. Yeah there was a problem with the heads needing replacement on the 2012.

There are also amazing discounts on the last model year. Price difference is nothing to sneeze at. I'm a little oldschool maybe. Stick with something with the bugs worked out of it or at least known.

The tooling changes to make this truck had to be astounding. Also, tooling and engineering changes never stop in the automotive world, I live it everyday. Early adopters will have issues, there is no way around it. Thats simply the price you pay to have the latest and greatest.

What is it you don't want to test exactly?

My patience, dropping off an expensive vehicle multiple times for service.

New models are going to have issues. It's like saying "Engine A works great and has been out for a while! Also Part B works great and has been out for a while! C, D, E, F, and G are all well liked and work great too. We'll just put all of these things together and retrain some workers to do it, add in some new or changed parts on a newly tooled assembly line with new processes, and oh by-the-way we are still making some last run 2018s too and are under tremendous pressure to meet delivery deadlines!!!! What could go wrong??!"

I'm not saying all 2019's are going to be garbage or lemons. But will there be issues? YES.

Theres always issues with first model year vehicles. It's nice to have the latest and greatest but you run the risk of having more problems than you would if it was a year or two old. They all have their lil "bugs" and glitches. Yes that's exactly why theres warranties but who really wants to spend $40, $50, $60k on something just to keep bringing it to the dealer for work. And does anyone else think the 5th gen's looks like the Toyota Tundra?

Respectfully, any year, make or model can have issues. I get the whole "I don't want to buy a first year truck" thing, but honestly I have purchased trucks that are in their last year of production run, and had issues. It's a crap shoot really, and anything man made on an assembly line inevitably can/will have issues. I am one to simply not worry about things out of my control, and buy what I like now rather than later because well frankly, I may not be here on this earth later. Therefore, I just purchased a new '19 Ram limited and while I don't even have 100 miles on her, the fit and finish seems to be spectacular. The interior is library quiet, not a single rattle or any noise, tolerances are very tight, and I couldn't be happier. Could I have issues down the road? Sure, but I could have issues if I purchased a 2021 Ram, or Toyota, or any other brand. Life is short and can be sniffed out at any time, as I saw first hand during my 12 year stint in the Army. For those that have not driven a '19 yet, I encourage you to do so as this truck is simply amazing. It's my first Ram, and can't believe I waited this long :)

They did a lot of testing during the design, however they got in such a rush to release it in order to beat or “outdo” the other manufacturers that some issues may have gotten overlooked. It’s one thing to display a new model at the auto shows, but they also released it to production so early to the point they are building two generations at the same time? I have never seen this happen. Most of the time the new models start hitting dealerships around Labor Day not Easter.

As a rule I don’t buy total redesigned vehicles the first year they come out and I don’t care what country of origin it is, cosmetic changes or minor changes ok but not total redesigned. If you want to buy one go ahead but your wasting your breath trying to convince me.

Maybe FCA wants to attract the Toyota crowd which seems to have worked with the OP.

Ending a post with "maybe Ill just save up for a 2019 Raptor" makes me wonder if OP really is considering a 2019 RAM.....

I hope he isn't considering a '19 Raptor. I had an '18, and while it had neat features, I had issues with it and was back at the dealer several times. Also, when you give it the gas, the turbo V-6 sounds like a duck farting. It was very annoying and I just couldn't get over the poor quality, and sound for a $80k truck. Not trying to hijack the thread, but I am 5 times more impressed with my '19 Ram Limited.

First off. Thanks for your service from north of the boarder.

I hope everything is fine with the 19s and there are no issues with it and you get many years of enjoyment out of it.

All we are saying is the expectation is that some/most of the issues have been identified and/or figured out as time goes on.

With the rate of innovation these days corporations are moving as fast as they can to remain competitive... There are 3 major pillars which play a role. Cost, time, quality. It's a balancing act based on goals.

Again the expectation is everything to be fine and to have no issues... [emoji482]

Yes I do. I’m not fond of the 19. Maybe that’s why I have an 18 2500. It’s a real man’s truck.
