Here’s what we’ve been waiting for.

Falls in the middle; slower than the Ford 7.3 and faster than the gas GM.

Thumbs down to TFL for the poor audio quality on this video. Not typical of their work.

Just watched it and I'd say it's about dead average for my expectations. Wish they would have tested the 4.10 gears rather than with the 3.73.

Ford was quite a bit quicker but had 4.30 gears. However, Ford and Chevy had a 16,000# trailer while the Ram was 14,300 due to the truck's rating.

It is a bit strange that these guys go to all the trouble to pull off these tests but miss the mark a bit on a true comparison. Is it too much to ask for them to have same weight trailers and best available gearing for towing?

The engine braking was pretty poor but as they point out, manually shifting should really help correct that.

The gear spacing seemed a little farther apart than I'd anticipated when they were at maximum effort. The truck seemed to bounce back and forth between lugging a bit around 4K then reving up to 5K+. I guess with the 8spd I was hoping for less of that.

Overall, I'm still pretty excited about it and this would/will likely be my next truck. I will probably take a look at the Ford though as well. That looks like a real beast.

It would be nice to see all trucks tow the same trailer up the hill. That would be apples to apples in my mind...

I feel if you know you are going to tow 14,000 pound and run Hills like Ike at that elevation you definitely should get a diesel.

I live in Phoenix AZ and we have 2 roads with some nasty hills that will challenge any trucks. I-17 going toward Flagstaff and the other going to Heber. Heat/overheating is what gets most trucks. Starts at 1000 to 7500 elevation. I’d be curious to see if a 6.4 pulled those hills and what weight?

If you watch TFL and search through these Ramforumn take it with a grain of salt. It will make you second guess your purchase. Most of the information is at great value but some of the haters and nit picking.

Again TFL is a great baseline. You don’t buy a gasser and max it out towing crazy hills.

Exactly. I’d like to see real world tests up the Ike. Something like an 8000# travel trailer including full fresh water tanks, clothes, food, etc.. Hauling max load up a hill means nothing to me when there’s no constant variables.

Hello all

I have the 6.4l and did the Ike gauntlet a year ago with this truck and had no problems. I used the engine as a break and steady pressure on my brakes. I was pulling 6800 lbs and using the 3.73 gears. I trucked back to Kansas in 97° temps running A/C and truck did not miss a beat. Great truck.
