I'm new to the diesel world but from what I have heard I should be getting better mileage than I am right now. Took a ride on the highway and managed to get 17mpg at 70mph/1800rpm while headed southbound for about 10 miles. On the way back I could only get 13.7mpg at the same speed on same highway??? Highway is flat, not many hills here in South Jersey. Truck is a 2011 crew cab 4x4 with 51,000miles.

Yeah that sounds about right if all the stock emission equipment is still there...

My fuel expenses have gone way up compared to my Chebby Silverado.

Because I just can't stop driving this thing!!!
I have put over 5000 miles on in the 1st month of owning this beast!

DPF (diesel particulate filters) Over glorified cat that collects the soot from the exhaust.
EGR = Exhaust gas recirculator.
And yes a tuner/programmer would be required to tell the computer lies!

well, I WAS shopping for diesels, but theyre usually $5-10,000 more around these parts(used). I knew what the EGR was anywho. Yeah, my newest vehicle was a 99 car. Everything else is a 78,79, & an 84. :)

Hmm... getting 13.7 on a diesel isn't bad at all. I also live in south jersey ( Caldwell is pretty close to the area as well) maybe ur fighting some wind that one direction? Where u on a major road like 295 or turnpike?

Haha I competely agree! I get better fuel economy with this beast than my 11' hemi, but I can't stop stacking up the miles!

Average 16-17 around town, 20 on highway at approx 75mph with 5 inch lift on 35's.

Delete's and H&S FTW!

That's a steal. Around here, a Gen. 3 CTD with 100,000+ miles still brings $26,000 - $28,000. I paid $27,000 for my 2012 Hemi with 14k miles. I wouldn't even waste my time pricing a Gen. 4 CTD around here.

I was on 295 down by exit 15. Btw, how much money are we talking about doing deletes? And better mileage at 80mph??? Is that possible?

You can. Just not legally. At this point 2013/14 are out of luck. Someone will figure a way to tune and bypass the emissions.

Deletes are getting very sophisticated these days. There are a few companies that sell stealth kits using a hollowed out dpf and NOx and an H&S tuner. I have not priced them myself but I would expect $2500 to $3000 for the complete package. The benefit is the truck will pass visual inspection and run without any smoke. You just won't pass a sniffer test or OBD2 probe.

As 1500RAM12 said this is only for up to '12s. No one has a tuner to delete '13s and up.... yet.
