Is there any reason that I couldn't (or shouldn't) replace my stock 275/60/20 tires with 275/50/20?
I assume they will fit on the rim the same and the only visible (or physical) difference would be the "height" of the tire.

One thing to note is that I may want to tow a motorcycle trailer or lightweight TT a few times per year. Does that factor into the decision? Thanks.

On paper you'll be going with a tire 2" smaller in diameter than stock. You should accomodate the size in your calibration with something that allows you to do so so your mpg calculations and rpm shift points are addressed according to the new tire size.. If anything you'll get more torque to the whels cause the new size is smaller. As an example if you had 3.92's from the factory the new tire size will make your effective gearing act as if you had 4.10's.

You might want to also look at 275-55-20 tires. They are approximately 1" shorter than the 275-60-20. I did this when I had my 2012 and really liked the change.

There are several things it changes, for one my tires are 1 in. taller than my factory tires and it made my speedometer 3 MPH slower. I was able to fix it with the ALFAOBD. You can fix it but your speedometer may be 5 to 6 MPH slow faster than your really going if your tires are 2 inches shorter. I think I said that right. LOL

The 50/60 is the amount of meat on the rim in terms of percentage of the width (275 mm).

You are loosing 27.5 mm of meat, that would look wierd. Might look good if you lower the truck.

Truck has 3.21 gears. I'm not really concerned with my speedo or mileage calculator being off a touch, although if I can adjust for those somehow, I would. I just want to be sure that there aren't any other mechanical risks. Are shift points anything I really need to worry about? Or is that considered minor? Thanks.

Asking abut these 50s specifically because someone has a set they are selling. Otherwise, I would be buying stock size from a tire dealer. Thanks.

K, With 3.21's and those 31's your effective final drive gearing will be around 3.42

And yep it's in your best interest to address the new size. All the newer electronics rely more and more on stuff like that now days furthermore if you have the 8 speed trans and 44-44 transfer case. I can't tell you the trans will be exactly at risk per se but because the learning algorithms in the new stuff those shif points may become something you may not want , the 44-44 transfer case seems to be picky in terms of the lockup clutch that applies pressure so engaging the front wheels in your 4x4 may not function as intended after the tire size change etc. You can use Alphaobd to change your tire size i think that's the cheapest way, though a little more complicated to setup compared to perhaps something like a Flashcal 3545. You don't need to do it right away so you'll have time to see if the new tire size will bother you when it comes to addressing the size in your TCM.
