65rfe overheating

My 2014 ram 1500 with the 5.7 and 65rfe has been having a transmission issue, it’s usually after driving for about 2 hours the temperature will rise and rise and won’t stop, I was driving for about 4 hours once and noticed it at 230 and pulled over to let it cool down. Since then I’ve been watching it closely and driving for about 2 hours will get it to around 190 and that’s usually when I stop driving. Has anyone had a issue similar to this and fixed it?

Low fluid level, old fluid, clogged filter and/or cooler or failed thermostat.

When was the last time you had it completely serviced?

Take the thermo bypass vegetation off yet? RFE should never even see 200f or 190/.

Fluid level on the dipstick looks good, and it still has a nice color to it, probably is due for a change soon with the filter, the last owner said he serviced it around 60k miles, I got the car at 105k and currently at 128k. I was thinking of possibly getting a new cooler for the trans fluid since I saw someone say that the oil fluid temp being so close to it in the coolers causes it to rise

Take the thermo bypass vegetation off yet? RFE should never even see 200f or 190/.

I thought 65rfe didn’t have a thermo bypass, I’ll look again and if I see it I’ll take that off and see if it improves the temp

Since 2013 the RFE has had thermo bypass, this most likely is your issue. It seams you are aware, so all you need is to replace it.

Look through the upper pass side of the grill,if you see an aluminium block with 4 hardlines running to it,you have the transmission thermostat.
FYI to replace the transmission cooler,you have to buy a A/C condensor,as the cooler is in the top part of the condensor.

Oh yeah, they’re pretty pricey too, I’ll try the bypass first and pray it solves the issue, next would most likely be have a mechanic do a service if it doesn’t fix the issue

I'd lay odds there's nothing wrong with your cooler,and the issue will be the thermostat block,they're known to give trouble. They use a light duty pellet style thermostat in the block,and my honest opinion of it,it's a piece of garbage.I disassembled the one off my old 13,and not only is the thermostat junk,but even in flow flow mode,it doesn't let all the transmission fluid flow to the cooler,as it's still a restriction in the cooler flow path.
I think the bypass will probably cure your issues,unless you have something wrong with the transmission itself.
