Noticed a coolant smell the other day. Found white residue around on and around the degas cap and some on the bottle. Nothing but oil on the dipstick. Haven't seen a lot on failing head gaskets on these motors.
2014 2500 6.4 hemi. Last summer/fall I flushed the heater core, replaced water pump, thermostat, a bunch of hoses including the egr hoses, fan clutch, belt, tensioner, idler pulleys, degas cap. Also added a bypass coolant filter. radiator was replaced 2 years ago.
Also monitor temps with a scan gage 2. The coolant temp has fluctuated since I bought it 2 years ago. Before the above listed repairs the temp would rise to 230*ish and drop to low 180*. Since the repairs it rises to mid to high 220* and drops to low 190*. Ambient temp or driving situation has no effect.
The cap was bought at the local Ram dealer. Most everything else was a brand name from Rock auto.
Looking for direction and or suggestions. Thank you.
