Hello all,

I got a 13 ram with the 4.7.

Over the past few years, the engine has done only what i call surging at light/medium-light throttle while accelerating from a dead stop.

It feels like perhaps it’s torque converter related - but the torque converter was replaced, with the issue persisting. I can easily get the engine to jump back and forth 200-300 rpm when im on the gas accelerating in 4th with moderate throttle.

I have absolutely no check engine lights, engine runs great. Already loaded the parts cannon when replacing all plugs, coils, wires, intake temp sensor, logging throttle data with HPT, so on.

One weird thing - it doesn’t do it at all in tow/haul mode. If it’s acting up and fluttering between 200-300rpm like previously mentioned, if i put it in tow haul, it immediately goes away.

Any help/tips?

Hey NickSteel,
My 2012 is doing a very similar thing. It has the 65RFE and right at 230K miles. I notice it mostly while accelerating to get on an interstate in 4th. As you mentioned, it surges between 200-300 RPM, but runs perfectly otherwise. I have not tried the tow/haul trick, but will do so and let you know if mine smooths out as well. Thanks for posting this as it's difficult to try and narrow down the issue without clues after you try all the obvious things.
