Hey all,

Has anyone had this, sometimes when I turn the radio on, even when the truck isn't started up I get a whistling/high pitch noise.

This isn't the normal engine noise you get from a ground loop that gets higher as you accelerate, this noise happens as the radio is booting up.

I do have aftermarket stuff tapped in to the front/rear speaker leads directly from the head unit to get a signal to my JL CleanSweep but I can't see how that could/would cause anything. I have pulled the main fuse to my amp which powers the CleanSweep too, and I still get the noise.

The strange thing is, turning the truck off, opening door, closing and basically rebooting the radio, most of the time, gets rid of the noise, not always.

Any thoughts??

Thanks!

Not sure with these units, but in the past when I get noises like that it's usually related to poor ground. Does this happen with everything or just the radio? As in CD, Satellite, media on the hard drive? I ask because I've seen issue with the antenna cause this before as well.

I will say I'm surprised at the corrosion I'm getting at the battery on my 2010. I don't have any aftermarket electrical stuff either. I'm guessing poor ground is causing that as well. Going to address when I do the body lift in a few weeks.

Thanks for the input, good suggestion, I haven't paid notice to if it's all the time, I want to say it is because I normally am listening to Sirius/XM but sometimes FM as well and I've noticed it across both.

See if you can get it to happen with a CD or something off the hard drive. I'm guessing bad ground though or feedback from where you tapped into the speakers. If you're getting feedback though something is touching something it shouldn't.

Ok. This truck doesn't have a cd drive or hard drive. What's weird is it will do it even through the speakers in the dash which are connected right to the head unit. Not amplified.

We used to have to run noise filters back in the day for issues like this. Most times it could be traced to a bad ground somewhere on the truck. Sometimes something is giving a signal throughout the truck though. I'd start with checking all your power connections and ground connections. Even the grounds for the engine and body under the truck. If the ground is attached to something painted, removed paint and re-ground. Check your battery posts for corrosion as well. Lots of build up usually indicates bad ground somewhere.

These are just my experiences. I used to build a lot of sound systems about 10 years ago, lol.

Back in my youth we had to run them because the condenser caused the whine. You know, points and condenser, ha. Yeah I'm old.

I know exactly what you mean. My first few cars were late 70's early 80's cars, lol. They were so much easier to work on back then though. At least you could trouble shoot most issues. Now you don't know what's a computer problem and what's a sensor problem, lol.

yah in my older cars I ran the noise filters all the time. Problem is with this, I don't even know what to filter because its almost like rebooting the head unit most the time fixes it. Its just a royal PITA.

Heard this yesterday after turning the truck off. About 1 second high-pitched noise. Everything is stock. Probably nothing.
In my Magnum with MyGig, the sub would "bump" every 10 seconds for about 5 minutes, and I could hear the deck spinning and whirring about...and that was with the engine off, door open, and key in my hand.
