I'm finding tons of aftermarket, high torque capacity one piece shafts online for 2500 4x4 rams, and a few for 1500 4x4 rams, but nobody specifically mentions fitment on a 2wd,let alone a 2wd 8 speed. Local DS shop quoted a ballpark of 1600 to "make the first one they've heard of".

Anybody got any leads on a shaft that fits a 2wd 8 speed? Is there a difference in more than length? I'd imagine the slip yoke would be different.

Contact QA1 , maybe they can make you a carbon fiber drive shaft. I'd love to have one of those.

Did yours finally break? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yup. Well, the shaft itself didn't but I completely blew the center bearing out of it coming off the line last weekend. Big clunk followed by shaky 30 feet before I let out of it. It ripped the rubber off of the steel mount that it rides in, made the shaft bounce around under high load.

I've already installed the new one, but I want to eliminate the problem. I think the shaft and u joints are strong enough to handle what I would ever throw at it, but the center bearing is an obvious weak point.

Yeah I'm trying NOT to spend 1600 bucks on a shaft. The aluminum one piece shafts for the diesels run in the 5-750 range for one that would be plenty strong enough for my needs. I'm not building a 1000hp behemoth, just looking to switch to a one piece shaft.

I know multiple regular cab 8sp trucks that have thrown driveshafts at speeds over 130mph, but you are the first 4dr Ive seen do this. I dont know of anyone that is selling these specifically for the Ram trucks though. You are likely going to just have to get a local shop to build something custom for you.

Contact a company called Action Machine out of Indiana and tell them what you want. They'll build a custom shaft for about anything. Built me an aluminum shaft rated for 1200 lb-ft to my dimensions with u joints I requested for about $400 delivered to my door in a week. Wasn't for my ram, but I'd bet they'll do it. Their customer service was awesome too.

Yeah I don't know of many other crew cabs that were launching on a 150 shot off the line for 7 months, so it makes sense that I'm the first to break it lol.

I was afraid of that. I've got emails out to a few shops that are kinda local, within an hour or two away to see what I can come up with.
