I have a 2017 Big Horn 3.6 Pentastar with an 8 speed trans. Would like to see what gear the transmission is in when driving. I would like to see the up shifts and down shifts instead of just feeling them. Is there any way to put this on the display?

Use the + - buttons on the steering wheel and the gear will be displayed beside D on evic

In "automatic" mode, as far as I know, there's no way in the dash display to see the actual gear number advancing as the transmission shifts.

That could be if you have a previous gen: My 2019 Laramie does let me set gear display option to always show.

When you start your truck press your - shift button, then repeatedly press the + to set your max gear to 8. Watch your gears change while driving. Boom roasted.

But that would be real cool if it did...

As far as I know it is only possible to watch it climb through the gears on the premium 7" cluster (by pressing gear down and then gear up until you get ot the max gear you want).

You can set this as default in the Options.

I don't think I've seen this. Where did you set it?

This is how I do it. I also hear this "turns off" MDS, Not sure the truth behind that but it would be cool if true

From my experience it has been a successful way to turn off MDS. I have waited until I was highway cruising with MDS engaged , then pressed the - button and I could here the switch from 4 to 8. I have a Carven R-performance muffler so the exhasut note changing was very pronounced. Additionally the ECO light switches off as well.

Great to hear that you tested it out.

That's my thoughts as well, but the OP has a bighorn addition, so I'm assuming he has the premium cluster and can actually see the gear numbers change as the transmission shifts.

This is not the case with my 2017 Ram 1500 express 4x4 QC, pentastar, poor man addition.

Not sure why we're talking MDS, the OP has the 3.6 Pentastar.

It absolutely turns off MDS.

I have a clean ECM with Hemifever tune on it. One of the Recalls had set it back to factory. Apparently there was a major enough update to the ECM/TCM that the DiabloSport could not simply reload the tune without some fundamental update which I could not get to "take".

Bottom line is, I drove for a good 6 months with the stock tune, and "had" to use manual mode (set at 8 on the highway) to turn off MDS. I recently got it sorted out and it's so nice to be able to leave in Auto and get no Blat from MDS. I would pay the $1000 just for that, never mind the extra thump from Sean's tune.

TJames, your solution worked. It 's interesting to see what gear you downshift to in hilly situations. Wish there was a way to make it a default, so you wouldn't have to set it every time.

Glad to hear you were able to work it out. Do enough reading around the forum and watch enough youtube and you can pretty much figure out anything on these trucks. I do agree that it is annoying to have to do it every time you switch from P to D. Best solution though next to tuning it out.
