Hi group, I'm thinking about doing an 8 speed swap in my 2012 1500. I've read about using the SGA controller and all the other stuff related to using that. The question is could you just get a PCM with the complete engine wiring harness & the 8HP70 out of a truck that came with 8HP, like a 2013 or 14? I know the BCM and PCM won't communicate, but you could fix that with alfaOBD if I'm not mistaken. Just looking for some input on this option, thanks!

Your best bet is to talk to Russell at Sound German/SGA,he'll know what you need. There was alot of electrical/computor changes between the 12's and 13's.

Short answer - if you had a 2013+; you could. But a 2009-2012; not a chance due to the differences in CANBUS.

You need to talk to Russell at SGA as mentioned. He will set you up.

50k on my 2012 8HP70 swapped Ram with the SGA controller. It's still beyond awesome.

This is how you swap it into a 2012

Ok thanks, I have reached out to SGA, and I got the packet that he sends out with the information. How much drivability tuning was there once you first got it running? I'm not building a race truck, I just wanted to upgrade to transmission.

Okay, that's good. I thought the SGA system just got it running and then you had to fine-tune everything over a period of time.

I saw you used the center console range selector; will the dash mounted selector work with the SGA kit in a 2012? I have the center front seat and want to keep that.

On the 2012, there is no where 'factory' to mount the dash selector, since in a 2013, the radio bezel is a different shape. That being said, either the dial shifter or the t-handle shifter will work with the SGA kit. They do take different plugs, but are wired the same - so just order the right plug with the kit when you order it.

The wiring lead to the shifter is plenty long, so anywhere you can mount it, it'll work!

Sorry to keep asking questions on here, but I have one more. Will the wiring connector from the 2012 4x4 switch, plug into the 4x4 switch on the back of the dial on a '13 and up? If not, could it be repinned and work?

I doubt it, but let me give some insight...

The 4x4 switch uses a separate plug from the shifter, even if it is in the same assembly. You'll likely want a 2wd shifter, so you can relocate your factory 4x4 switch to the other side of the dash when you do your swap (move it to where the power inverter plug would be if you had that option).
