My truck threw a rod and I was gonna just pull a 99 5.9 but I found an 01 5.9 with amazing compression ranges and low miles. What all do I need, to be able to swap to the 01? I know there are some things that need to be swapped with it, but don't know what any of them are. Also, since I will have 2 long blocks, I will have 2 sets of heads and 2 intakes. (I'll probably pull extras while I'm at the junk yard) I plan on 1 set and keeping the other just in case. What do I need to be able to port them. No I don't have experience porting and please don't try to discourage me from doing it. I love to add things to my skill set.

99-01 engine change sound be a pretty direct swap. MAYBE injector connections but don't quote me on that im not for sure.

To save some future headache, after you pull your current motor, remove the crank and cam sensors on the new motor, bolt in new motor, and put sensors from OLD engine in NEW engine since you know they're good. This will also keep you from smashing the crank sensor on install.

Do the plenum gasket before new motor goes in to make it easier. New cap and rotor would be good idea and old cam sensor in new motor while it's out. Crank sensor wait till she's bolted in. New plugs and wires.

I kn0w this post is now old, but I'm finally able to get around to parts shopping. Would a 2002 engine swap in fairly easy?

EDIT: I just realized the 2002 is a 4.7 so...never mind...

I've done a swap before, besides the tips listed above the basic procedure :

-Drain all fluids, take of serp belt, you'll probably need the clutch fan tool
-Disconnect all wires, air cleaner, exhaust system from the manifolds (no need to remove manifolds themselves)
-You'll need a quick disconnect tool to remove the fuel line
-Unbolt AC compressor if your current truck's is still good, swing it still connected over to the passenger side for the time being
-Unbolt and remove the starter, 2 trans support brackets, dust plate, and unbolt TQ converter from flexplate
-Unbolt bellhousing from engine, easiest done when someone with a large socket over the crank pulley helps rotate the assembly to gain access to the other bolts for the converter
-Loosen motor mounts bolts
-Position your cherry picker over, best way I've found to pull the magnum engines is with a standard chain. Put one bell housing bolt thru the chain link and into the passenger rear of the engine. A second bolt goes in the front where you'd bolt the AC compressor.

Lift her out, good luck !
