I've been putting off a wheel bearing replacement for a few months and wondering if a bad bearing could affect the abs, tcs, trailer brake system. It's the front passenger side on my truck with 130k km. Unfortunately i dont have a scanner advance enough to read abs codes. My tire does not have any play in it, just a growl when I turn the wheels in the air.

I ordered the mevotech heavy duty version on rockauto. Hope it's good.

I can’t say absolutely for certain, but I would be surprised if a bad sensor reading at the hub didn’t cause abs, traction control, etc. to be turned off. My truck turned all of those functions off due to an out of spec steering wheel position reading.

If you’re talking about the TTX hubs, I put a pair of those on a month or two ago. They feel solid and have been fine so far, but I haven’t had a chance to get it off-road yet to see how they do. I didn’t get any codes with them that required an ABS initialization, but I’ve heard that’s fairly common.

You could drive by Autozone or OReilly's (or other parts store) and they'll usually do a free code scan. Then have them do a brake scan. That will give you an answer which brake sensor ...if that's the issue.

Could also be a simple brake Sw going flaky. Doesn't even need to be totally bad. If it's intermittent, it will still set a CEL warning. When mine went bad, I could see via the scanner it was good for, say, 20 presses, but on press 21 (for example) it wouldn't 'make'. So... it's possible it's something like that. A scan should indicate bad switch if that's what it is. They're super easy to replace. I'd get a Mopar one as some owners have had issues with aftermarket. Although...there's almost nothing inside them. Just a spring and a metal piece. They weight like 5 grams. LOL.

So give that a try...

I had a GMC Jimmy years and years ago that ate wheel hubs about 1x set every other year. One time before the usual howl was evident my abs light tripped off. The sensor on the front hubs (4wd jimmy) was mounted with 2 Allen key screws. I pulled one and it was a magnetic sensor that listened for the tone ring to spin by and the magnet was covered in filings and grease from the burning up bearing. So it could be what caused the abs light in your case.

My abs, tcs, trailer brake error went away the next day on its own. I just installed the mevotech ttx and so far so good. I had to beat the old one a bit to get it to come off. The truck is nice and quiet again. Hopefully I won't regret not going with a timken or skf.

Is that all penetrating oil on the old hub & dust shield?

Don't feel bad, there's commonly a lot of beating to get them out. Hopefully you left a little 'stress' in that old hub!
